You can (by application of the foot brake) get the selector to move - I do that to get my SLK into neutral so I can push it in/out of my garage with the engine off.It'll stay in park untill the engine starts.

I use a broom handle through the window on the brake pedal...That's wonderful . Alot won't budge afaik , you use a pin in a hole affair
Selector module is failing.The latest development is, the car now starts and drives forward but won't let me select reverse on the gear lever whilst the footbrake is depressed?
The reverse lockout symptom is nearly always the selector module.could it be the electrical connector on the box. known to let on moisture and replacing rubber grommet should be maintenance.
