I had my MOT done at quick fit a couple days ago and while doing the MOT they dented the car and ripped up the chassi, they also had the cheek to circle the chassi damage in the MOT.

I managed to get them to fix it but i ll tell you what i ll never go there again.

I thought it would be good to tell you all so as to warn you to never take it there.

Some years ago they tried to sell my wife new shocks for our Volvo 340, insisting that the one on the car were dangerously worn.

The "dangerously worn" shocks were about 2 months old, as I had already had them replaced when the originals had done 120,000 miles.

The fitter went as far as threatening to report her to the police if she drove off without having the work done, at which point she phoned me.

Trading Standards got involved shortly after that and the fitter moved on, but I'm convinced that he was only following company guidelines, albeit rather aggressively.

At least he managed to change the tyres without causing any other problems:rolleyes:

This sort of thing was also going on way back in the '70s, brake pads or calipers were the thing then. Usually more pronounced if the driver was a 'Miss' rather than a Mr. or Mrs.

Bizarrely this lot used to lift my granddad leg (his mot’s on a Toyota Corolla were costing about £200). I only found out when he died. Granny gave me the car to MOT and I took it to the local garage (where I get all my MOT’s done) and they noted that all the bushes/shocks/discs and exhaust system were virtually new. Bu&&ers.

I always use my local independent MOT centre – supporting small local businesses etc. Got a great rapport with them – I don’t even mind if they fail stuff!!!!

An old engineering buddy of mine used to work for them and yes, nails were put in customers tyres to meet targets.

Even worst than KwikFit.....

Not KwikFit - but (even) worse.....
Some years ago my wife's Previa went in for a service and MOT at Lucas Autocentre - see'd got some discount voucher.
They phoned her an hour or so later to suggest, with the mileage showing, she should definitely have the cam belt changed.
"We can do it at a special price for you ... and I can get the belt delivered within the hour." "Fitted it will be £??? (can't remember the price) including VAT."
The missus phoned me at work and I phoned them an hour later 'to see how they were getting on'...
"The belt has just been delivered and we're just starting to fit it".
I should have waited, but couldn't help it...
"You'll have a job" I said, "as Previas have chain driven cams - there is no belt"
He spluttered and started waffling on about "...ah, oh yes, well, yours must be the year they changed from belts...." but that, of course, was total clap-trap - Previas always being chain driven (as, of course, all good cars are!).
With hindsight, it would have been more interesting to have left them to get on with the job, and see what they were invoicing for when I picked it up in the evening.
As it happened, I collected it with an apology...

"Sorry, but whilst we were testing it, the radiator started leaking...."
"We can do you one for a 'special price'........"
The air was blue and I told them precisely what they could do with the radiator....
They did give me a bottle of water and I limped it home.
The core was damaged, but the radiator was a few years old anyway and rusty at the bottom - so there was no way I could prove they'd broken it. I ended up fitting a new one myself.
Happily, the local Autocentre branch closed shortly after and I think they've gone out of business now.

The moral is, of course, never phone them to make them feel stupid, or criminal. They do have your car in their possession and you don't know what on earth they'll do to it.....

They tried to 'con' me too. Suggested that I needed a new (twin) exhaust on the XJR, as there were a couple of 'rust holes' in both boxes which showed they had 'blown' and were therefore a MOT failure. They offered me a new pressed tin system with a TWO YEAR guarantee, for £750.

I asked to see what they were on about. Up on the ramp it went - sure enough there were the two holes.!

Back in the office, I asked WHY they wished to replace a STAINLESS STEEL system with a pressed tin system? No answer.! Secondly, I pointed out that the 'rust holes' were actually DRAIN HOLES. No response.!

I wrote a strongly-worded letter to the Chairman, who replied with an apology, stating that the Regional Manager had paid the depot a visit, and had identified a - wait for it - TRAINING ISSUE.......................

Nope, I have NEVER visited KwikFit since.

I often wondered just how many innocent people they have ripped off. Now I have a better idea. Lots.

Hi all. Just found this on the net. Johnny

You can’t get ****ter than a Kwik-Fit fitter

Um, if you think your car’s steering alignment is out, don’t go to Kwik-Fit. Or at least, don’t go to the one in Milngavie. I put the Saab in there a few weeks back to get the wheels balanced, and prepared myself for the moment when the fitter magically discovers that I need all kinds of extra work. “Can I show you this, sir?” he said. Here we go, I thought.

To be fair, though, this time the fitter was right. The wheels weren’t wearing evenly, which means the steering tracking is out. So another fitter took the car, used their magic machine to work out what the problem was, made a complete mess of it and told me my car had been damaged in a crash. Apparently the damage was so bad that they couldn’t sort the tracking completely, and they’d done the best they could.

The car was in for a service yesterday at a Saab specialist, and I asked him to look at the tracking. There’s nothing wrong with the car, he said. We’ve had loads of cars in here recently with duff tracking. Kwik-Fit doesn’t have the right kit to do it, apparently.

He showed me the results of Kwik-Fit’s tracking attempt. One wheel was vertical. The other was sticking out like a yokel’s tooth. Your car hasn’t been crashed, he said. It’s just that the fitter didn’t have a clue what he was doing.

Just only buy tyres from them and nothing else because they were(once) owned by Ford with better buying power so you can take advantage of the 4 for the price of 3 tyres.

Don't even believe in the amazing thing they said they can do in the adverts.

Quick Fit is a good place to get the air con re charged on a MB as they often log fault codes, as they cannot remove the code they will not charge you
