New Boot Trim from MB Grangemouth Parts

Bit the bullet the other day and rang MB Grangemouth (Parts dept) for some new rear boot drain/trim parts . Fearing that worst , I left Euan with the job of deciphering my email pictures as to which bits I needed .
He came back to me with the grand price delivered of £24 ish .
The parts arrived today , so I removed the manky broken and leaking old parts . I had already resealed the foam around the rear light clusters with sealant the other day .
I cleaned up the muck that was underneath and used sealant under the boot rubber that runs around the whole boot opening , before fitting the shiny new parts .
Finished just as the rain started.
Thanks MB Grangemouth parts dept for fast efficient and very well priced service , roll on the next failure .

Nice job, I do something similar each autumn. Take the trim and seal off, give it a good wash out and refit just with some silicon grease.
But new parts hmm ...

The old parts were cracked and the rubber seals had 30 splits in them , i soldiered on for a couple of years but they were finished

I'm now looking at mine again, them photos of new parts sooo tempting ...

Cheers Jim , all in it probably took 4+ hours by the time I stripped all the boot lining out , mopped up the water that started this saga , re-sealed the light fittings and fitted the new trims , but for £25 I’m well happy .
Hopefully that’s the water leak stopped .
It’s only the 3rd brake light that’s not been done now , but I didn’t think that was the cause anyway .

And so you should be. Hard to get that much value from £25.00 nowadays..... I'm currently fitting a Towbar, then Transmission fluid change and flush, also have purchased 5 litres of G48 concentrate antifreeze ( still have some left over from change in the last MB ) so will have that done in the next week or two. Last but not least, brake fluid change. Oil and filter not due for another 130 days, but while I'm in a changing frenzy...(and have the oil to boot, courtesy of an MB Newcastle 20 ltr special offer.. ! ! ) I'll most likely change the oil and filter while I'm at it. In the first 3 weeks since I got it, ( sorry pics still in process....) it has had the fuel filter housing replaced due to coolant loss, ( but done under warranty ) Then will be a question of hopefully driving on and enjoying it...( Covid -19 permitting !!! )

TBF to Mercedes, they don't rip people off for parts really, and the availability even for the older stuff still seems good. BMW and VAG don't seem to be so supportive.

Would be a good idea to silicone all the base of the finisher ,,so water wont get in anymore But thatsa bit to late now .

Checked the boot yesterday after what seems like weeks of rain , all bone dry .

I did use an trv black sealant below the fixings for the black plastic finishing strip, where the holes are , so it was a proper job

Those were cheap parts! Good find. Think I'd have been tempted to buy 2 sets and stash them away before they fly up in price. There have been complaints on the MB Club official forum about the cost of boot seals for older stuff skyrocketing. One example (can't remember model but nothing really special) was where the price had gone from £50 to £500 in a short space of time. Ultimate price gouging.

I had been putting the job off as long as possible , because I’d heard horror price stories about trim costs . When the boot was getting water in though I had no choice but to act . I was blown away by the low price , wish I’d done it earlier
