Hi all, first time I have ever posted... need some advice regarding a dilema... I have currently been driving for 7 years a 2010 ML 350 cdi. I now have my eye on a 2018 GLE43 Amg Designo Line, very happy but have just read the stats re mpg - surely they have made a mistake at 18mpg combined!

I never imagined any manufacturer would be trying to sell cars on those figures in 2020

That model must be aimed at Saudi princes. They're the only people who can fill their cars without noticing the price of fuel or the cost to the planet.

Go for it and don’t worry about the mpg. It certainly won’t be anything like your diesel but will be much more fun. In looking at US figures, don’t forget that the US gallon is smaller than the Imperial one so their mpg figures are always worse.

I have a GLC43, so a smaller and lighter car, and I can get between 28 and 31 on a mixed run but this will fall to mid 20s if there is too much town driving.

I suppose it depends how many miles you do a year but don’t forget petrol is cheaper than diesel now if you are going to do a calculation.

MPG depends on how you drive. I get 48MPG between services with E350CDI. Using the wife's SLC250d to drive to London 125 miles, I get 61mpg.

OK Ill take your advice, perhaps a monthly contribution towards to fuel would certainly help matters...:)

The more you drive the car the more the exhaust note will tease you into pressing the accelerator harder and hence the more fuel you will use. This isn't a problem in a diesel chugger hence they do such good mpg.

Welcome Degs
that's a model which is catching my eye too.
I'm thinking 18 is a little harsh, I'd have thought early 20's but don't expect anything near your 350, it won't happen.
All depends on your journey profiles
