You want my opinion?

For the price of one of these "New models" that will inevitably depreciate more than one of the late "old models", you might as well get an E-Class 220CDi. Maybe even the 270... By the time you spec them both how you want them, there wont be a mega difference in price, or if buying used, go for the E-Class everytime. The latest c-class is small, annoying to drive and a little... Boring. I know someone who has a variety of these cars and I thought the e-class was much better when I drove it compared to the C.

Just my opinion, but look at the specs and the money...

I'd go with the used E class. Much nicer car inside, proven to be reliable and there are some good deals on them. The new E220cdi engine is the same power as the old 270cdi and is ample for the car. The V6 CDi engines are very powerful but not so frugal.

I endorse that. The E Class has more elbow room and more bootspace. Very comparable economy, ample power, probably quieter at cruising speeds. You are clearly going to be shopping in the era of galvanised cars with nano paint and mechanically they should be fine.

Good choice of cars and deals at present - we will be fascinated to hear of your decision.

Good enough for thrify mcfrugal :D

I looked at the 204's as sizewise they'd be more appropriate for me, but it was a massive dissappointment, especially interior space wise and cabin quality. I'd go for the 211 and sample one of MB's best modern offerings.

On the other forum it was noted when a 204 owner had a 220cdi E class he fealt it was much quieter, more refined and comfortable, which IMHO an MB should be.

e class
Me too. I looked at both back in may , on a 57 plate the c class was dearer than a smilar e class!! The c class cabin is a bit more modern, but smaller, same for rest of the car. I had a c clas sports out for a weekend test drive and it was a bit too firm for me!
I bought a E 220 CDI avant guarde in the end.I suspect E class values will slump a little more when the midel comes out

Did you not feel the 204 just fealt cheaper made. I went along to look @ the BMW 3 series E90 (a car I noted for its cheap cabin) and overall it was much more solid feeling inside (and outside with the mass and clunk of the doors).

The E class is the most well sold MB, its their core product as it shines through. The whole range centers around it, and it shows. MB starts with an E (sorry C class owners).

Who noted the BMW 3 series for it,s cheap cabin ?

If the new E-Class 220 CDI ( which I own ) is such good quality why is it the most unreliable car I have ever owned these cars are NOT good quality maybe it,s the plastic sills, boot lid, boot floor, grill, if you want to fit a tow hitch the week rear end of the car has to be renforced because it so week the fan on the engine has to be changed because it,s not up to the mark.
Yes it,s very pretty but quality no

I did, and my boss, when I looked at them as a replacement for the X5. He looked @ one to buy and fealt that inside it was "cheap like a ford".

I've never towed with the car so won't comment. Its better than most modern cars inside, but yes it could and should be better, but its not bad. Mechanically mine has been sound, and whatcar owner reviews seem to praise the cars reliabilty as to JD powers. There are always turkeys out there. BMWs 3 series was voted UKs most reliable car, but I know from reviews that some folk have had bad un's. You have an iffy E. Unfortunately MB still make them.
