Hi Guys,

Has anyone a new C they want to comment on?

I may wait for the new estate or maybe not. £25k seems to get me a choice of VAT free new C class saloons. Don't think I want a Sport - think a SE is best value - or Elegance. Want cloth or leather - not silly MB Tex by a new name Artico? fake plastic leather - any comments? - Seems compulsary on most if not cloth.

Think I may buy a C200k or C200Cdi. Anyone got any recommendations? C200K is first choice as diesels not my thing. Auto C200k with cloth and a few HiFi options.

Opinions welcomed!!

driving the W204 Avant Garde C280, old engine but still a good drive nonetheless. Almost on par with the new 3 series.

A few quality niggles but nothing major.

Personaly i would go with a c220 cdi (200cdi is a wee bit slow on the uptake) and account for the exra money on this engine by going for artico (thus saving on the leather cost) as it really doesnt look lke plastic- unlike the the old lex/tex which was awful.
Out of all my customers who have purchased the w204 only one has opted for real leather as you couldnt really tell the difference between the two and spent the money saved on a different option.
If taking a stock car from showroom (ie not a factory order) make sure it has had the software upgrade for the gearbox as some problems have arisen on the gearbox giving a not particularly smooth change.

Hi Joe,

I swapped my old W203 2003 C class Avantgarde SE, and replaced with a W204 Sport C220cdi about 5 weeks back from the Wolverhampton Dealership. I've already put most other diesel and petrol of similar size engine to shame ;)

I took about 7k of options, but paid no where near that for them. This was mainly due to my old one being very low milage and getting a pre-reg car rather than wait (thankfully the exact model I wanted was the pre-reg car, along with all the options, bar one (headlight washing).

Niggles with W204 (and they are niggles):
1) Main headlight beam (flashing other cars thru) seems hard to use/find.
2) Light Controls, like W203 are on the right, but not as informative as W203. I just leave on A (Auto) atm until I can work it out.
3) A few of the controls for getting around Audio 20 system are taking some working out.

All in all, they are minor niggles that will improve with usage. The build quality is a massive improvement over the W203. Performance is stunning and handling is superb. My only problem now is they are going to be selling in bucket loads :D
