The exterior floor pan on my 2008 C class estate is covered by a plastic panel. In the sills there are four rectangular recessess used as jacking points. However there are no rubber jacking points where I would normally use my trolley jack. Advice is therefore welcomed about supporting the car on a trolley jack.

W204 Jacking Points

On other cars, I've used a block of wood between the jack and the jacking point. This avoids damage to the jacking point.......is this yet another evidence of cost cutting on the 204?

On my S203 there is a central jacking point right under the engine, it pokes through the under-tray, a 2" square hard rubber block. At the rear it would be the diff.

Clearly the car would need to be supported on stands once lifted.

Wood is a bit dodgy as it can split - something like halved rubber donuts (like the type that are used in driveshaft couplings etc) are better.

The rubber jacking blocks on the sills are designed to take the jack in the boot perfectly. So you can jack it up safely without falling off. The ramps in the workshop are rubber flat platforms.

Can you or anyone expand on this comment?

What examples of cost cutting have been experienced so far?

I suspect that I might put a w204 on my driveway sometime in the future so I am a little concerned.

I have previously owned a 1989 190E 2.6litre for 4 year (new price £25000), a 2000 C220 CDI for 6year, (new price £30000) and now the w204 C220 CDi Estate. The 190E was the most conservatively engineered. The w204 is however a lovely vehicle, especially to drive, even though it has been designed to price. It is not obvious that quality is compromised and I intend to keep it for a long time.

It is some time since I had a test drive, but a couple of things I noted at the time were:

1. The very useful oddment tray on top of the spare wheel has gone.
2. The rear head restraints can no longer be folded electrically.
3. If you order a split-fold rear seat, the squab no longer folds and hence the floor is no longer flat with the seats folded. I understand that this is also true for the new estate, although somebody may be able to correct me in this.
4. Some of the additions that came with an enhanced spec. are now extra cost, eg metallic paint.

On the plus side, there are safety features that weren't available on the old cars that have got to be paid for somehow. I agree that it is a fine car, and like yourself I would hope sometime to replace my 203 with a 204.

I think this sort of thing happens all the time when a new model comes out, not just with MB....it is a question of what they think they can get away with!

I've had one for 8 mos now and if its of any assurance to you, its been faultless so far, (except for initially squeaky brakes which now seems to have cured themselves)

Its now started at -20c and plus 34C, without a murmur (parked outside overnight - garage is too full for the car). The interior is plain but solid, so thats a matter of personal taste. The door pins look a bit cheap but I was in an R, recently and it had the same pins!

The only draw back is the 7 speed autobox, which is very slow to kickdown, so I'm using the tiptronic more often than I expected, to merge or pass.

Nice driver.

Jacking point evolution on the C class

Hi All

I have been wondering if the jacking points on the C class have evolved over the production run of this model? Specifically, their location & design (shape, construction, materials, etc.). I am interested in the JPs associated with the chassis.

An old doughnut cut in half works very well in the trolley jack cup

I think the part number referred to is for the rubber plug fixed to the car that the jack pad tool is inserted into? Some models use different ones.

The tool itself has no part numbers on it.

Edit: how come the post I've replied to has now disappeared?

New W204 Class 200 CDi Auto Comments

Hi all New to the forum. I have a Sept 08 C200 CDI Auto Avantgarde which I am generally very Happy with, until I tried to drive it in light snow and icy conditions- It was just undriveable. My previus Audi a4 Avant Auto was much much better in the winter conditions( with same Conti Sport tyres as C Class has). I have a few quick queries if any one can answer me. (1) No illumination on headlamp swithch surrond, only grenn indications for light on, impossible to see switch position in the dark- same for head lamp level swith- is this normall? (2) no dask display if doors or tail gate open is this normal ? No warning if you loock car from remote and a door or boot are open. Regards from Ireland .
