Hi,

I`m taking delivery of a new C Class in a few days for my wife.  When you lock/unlock my S320CDI (just like any other new Merc) the key remote does not make a bleeping noise.

My wife insists that her new C CLass must make a bleeping noise to indicate when the car is being locked/unlocked!!!

Is is true that the car can be programmed at the dealership (by a laptop) so that it will bleep everytime to indocate whether the car is being locked/unlocked?

If so, to what country would the car have to be programmed to in order to make the bleeping noise from the key remote?

Thanks in advance.

since 1994 ish it has been against the euro laws to have an alarm make any noise, other than when the alarm is activated. There is no option on the U.K spec 203 model. She will just have to watch the indicators flash

Wrong! take it to the dealers and get them to change the setting to NL, the alarm will bleep when activated! there are other settings this may affect such as temp readings in C or F or even MPH or KMPH ask your dealer he will know ;)

Koolvin,
Thats interesting, does it apply to the 202 model as well?
I am unimpressed with the alarm setting as it is & the hesitation period when withdrawing the *ignition key* is infuriating,i.e. the inability to lock the car if the key is withdrawn too quickly-steam engine technology in todays world.
PS. I thought you had left us.

Ok Koolvin, thanks for your unhelpful and inaccurate comments.
Firstly why would any M.B dealer wish to reset a vehicle so that it no longer conformed to current legislation? Secondly are you sure that the alarm sirens are the same? As I am sure you are aware that some alarm sirens are activated by a pulsed signal from the front S.A.M and others by a 12v feed. Next time you want to get on your technical high horse and say that someone is wrong maybe you need to consider your response before leaping to your keyboard.

New C Class (Key Remote)

Hi Guys,

Didnt mean to cause any tension.

I`ve heard of some stories that some MB delaers have programmed cars to make the key remote bleep in the UK.

I`m not goin to bother askin my dealer (who are rather dumb).  The only reason I went ahead with the order was because I had placed a £1000 deposot on the C Class, and had a falling out with them when they had kerbed one of the olloys on my 500SE a short while ago.  It was too late to cancel the order and get a full refund.

When I collect the C Class on Friday I`m going to inspect it thoroughly!!! - Its obvious that they  thrash and rip the cars in their custody i.e. my alloy was badly damamged, and I saw yesterday a new E Class (from the same dealership with 2 technicians seated at the front) being driven hard and taken over a kerb to cut traffic!!!  It was being thrashed about.

In the end my alloy was refurbished free of charge because I had started to take legal proceedings against them.

I guess that I`ll have to forget about getting the C Class to bleep with the key remote.

P.S.  I`ll be lucky if I get it in one piece.

Salvatori.

Koolvin is right.

I have had my car programmed to do exactly what Salvatori's wife wants his/hers to do.

My dealer set my car to the Netherlands setting at my request. It gives one audible bleep on unlocking and 3 on locking. It does NOT affect any other settings.

If I'm breaking the law, I'm not losing any sleep, and neither are my neighbours (or the dealership). It's not that loud, and it isn't the same as the alarm.

And if YOU are right, threepointedstar - "it has been against the euro laws" why do you suppose its called the Netherlands setting by MB? It isn't the alarm that sounds - that is the answer, I suspect.

And finally - "Next time you want to get on your technical high horse and say that someone is wrong maybe you need to consider your response before leaping to your keyboard."

Let's keep it friendly shall we? We are all here to share information and who knows - however much we think we know - perhaps even to learn something.

EDIT -
I just noticed threepointedstar, that you wrote on another thread - (headlight glare, Gen Q's)
It's dealers doing this kind of slap dashcheck that gives us all a bad name.

Are you a dealer?

Salvatori,

You signed off this thread before my post, and I just wanted to let you know that what you want is capable of being done - read my post above.

Hope this helps.

Hi Guy,

I dont really like visiting the "Stealership", but probably will have the C class programmed to bleep with the remote from another stealership (that is not too far from me instead of my local one).

Are you absolutely sure that programming the car to NL settings will not affect any other settings of the car, or invalidate the warranty should something go wrong with any other aspects of the car?

As soon as I hear from you I will get the car reprogrammed.

many thanx.

Salvatori,

My dealership performed the re-programming to the NL setting at the PDI. They didn't charge for it, and it definitely does NOT affect any other settings on the car. It will not invalidate the warranty if performed by an MB dealer.

It takes no time at all once the car is hooked up to the computer.

Cheers.
