Afternoon,

I've recently picked up a new C220 (auto) and I've come across an odd ticking noise that repeats approximately every 3-5 seconds. The ticking noise only occurs once the car has been driven and warmed up. I've witnessed the noise when the revs are at idle, which can be temporarily fixed by restarting the engine.

It appears to be coming from underneath the car.

I've got a video of the noise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLFP1khuwBU

Is this normal or does it need to be booked in at the dealership?

Thanks,

Conor

Can anyone let me know if their car has the same ticking noise on idle after the car has been driven?

Same problem here! C250 coupe 2016 50,000 miles with same exact problem! Sound goes away if I restart the car. Then comes back

I also noticed that when i reverse from 0 I also hear a crunching sound coming from back... not sure if related..

any feedback guys?

M271 engine can be noisy and also very expensive if the cam chain fails...

Okay.
Unsure its a chain as its just a little click. Every 5 seconds or so.

Might just be a heat shield on the exhaust

since non of the posters above replied. i can only guess what ticked eventually went boom.

mercs are sensitive cars and usually faults are logged and user informed on the dash. If the has is not behaving oddly then don't worry about it.

Just bought 2016 merc ,2,5d auto coupe in newer shape , not the old one .
I have exactly this same sound as described above . Only clicks when I take car for a run and when is hot . Did we eventually found out what is the issue. If this is something major then I rather get rid of the car . Please help us out . Also guys, while you drove with clicking sound did it got any worse ?

Inside 6 months of purchase it’s assumed the fault was there at point of sale and for the dealer to prove otherwise. You have the mighty force of the consumers rights act.

Get an MB Indy to confirm the fault and repair estimate. Then present it to the supplying dealer and see what they say. If they fob your off then refer to the act above.
