Good evening.
I have been lurking for a few months trying to find the perfect Mercedes to fit me. my family and my lifestyle. I have recently been medically retired fronm the Civil Service after 25 years service but thats another very long story!
I decided on a C220CDI with sports pack suspension. Its definitely not a perfect car as it has a few issues such as cosmetic paint damage a bit of rust and some engine quirks. However I now have the time to "play" with it to get it running right.
Its Blue, and a bit tatty after the previous owner used a Halfrauds spray can in places and then went over the whole car with a thick layer of white polish that still remains in the cracks between the body panels and into the engine bay.
I found out today from cole@MBS that the pollen filter and housing was missing. (That will explain the foul smell of diesel in the cabin then!) I dread to think what else the previous owner did or did not do to it. I must admit I am worried he reset the service indicator so as to make the car more sale able without actualy doing the service.
I have been going to Tony Purslows main MB dealer in Guildford and they seem very nice and quite fair. Getting them to do the front discs and pads, adjust the handbrake...sorry foot brake, two new tyres on the rear and replace a poly V belt. I would do it myself but Degenerative disc disease prevents this.
I have already posted a few questions and they have been answred quickly. What a fellowship of knowledgeable people you all are.
My most recent issue to overcome is intermittent starting...turn key and "click". no start. Lock and unlock the doors and she starts...WEIRD!!! Never had anything like this before so will be starting with a battery check followed by cleaning the starter motor terminals and the earth, this will take some time though due to immobility if I overdo things.
I want to also disable the EGR/DPF on the car so have mailed GAD tuning this PM. Got to get her mechanicaly sound first though so she is a reliable workhorse.
She is just a puppy with only 98k on the clock and looking forward to tripling that.
Wow, too much information above.
Leave you with Kindest regards and sending Good Vibes to all who need them.
Simon AKA Dogfish.
(My daughters Chihuahua goes mad when I say this to him).
Looking forward to meeting some of you
