Hi all,
I finally upgraded to my dream car last week but my wife rung yesterday whilst on the morning school run to report a very loud ticking noise which she could hear over 2 very loud children and an even louder radio!! She took the car straight home and swapped in the old car. I started the car when I got home and there was no ticking?
I took the car out this morning before work and again, no ticking!!!???
Can anyone help???
To say that I’m concerned would be an understatement. The car came with 3 months warranty with the rac. Should I also extend this?
The cars a 6.2 c63,62 plate with 52000 on the clock.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Sam

Welcome buddy , just get your wife to recreate the same route again and be prepared to video the engine noise with the bonnet up if it happens again ? (Better show her how to open the bonnet )

Can she tell you where the ticking came from?
If internally it may be the trip meter reset sticking, that can cause such a noise
What’s your engine number ?

These can have noisy lifters.
To quash your fears, the rocker covers need to be removed and the lobes checked for wear. That will tell you if the cams are worn or lifters are worn.

Otherwise, could just do with a good oil change.

A 62 should be past the issue of head bolts etc.

Hi, no not rely she just said from under the bonnet. I’ve been out in it again this afternoon and she’s purring like a kitten. She’s pretty clued up the girl so I don’t think she was hearing things (lol, I hope).
My engine number is:
15698560079257.
Can any one tell if I have the bad head bolts from my engine number?
Cheers for all your posts guys and gals

No head bolt issues there so don’t worry - it was 60658 and earlier...
Lifters as AMF said could be possible but you’d hear it constantly really

Thanks for checking out my engine number. It’s good to know I don’t need to change the head bolts. I’ve changed the oil and filter

Are they solid lifters or hydraulic, if hydraulic, it could’ve been a sticky lifter that has freed itself under oil pressure, just a thought:)

Presume when you bought it it had been sitting a while ?
I’d suggest an oil change ( good quality), as AMF says then bring up to temp and give it some beans ( any excuse really!!)
