Just picked up the new w124 e300 td to replace the written of e300d. Seems to be in pretty good condition: steering is dead tight, engine smooth, no nasty clunks or other obvious problems and everything seems to work. FSH, mot, etc and done a mere 173k.

Only problems are that the gearbox is a little jerky, especially around 3000rpm, the cruise control lurches a little bit and the car idles about 550rpm, which seems rather low. I assume that these are all linked to vacuum leaks. Any other ideas???

Lurches as it goes into gear. Not as smooth as it should be. The gearbox oil is pink and not burnt. My old e300d was much worse but this was due to one of the vacuum pipes coming out from the y joint under the big manifold.
