Perusing the new cars in my local dealership and spotted a beautiful CLS in silver.... but MATT

Must say it certainly stood out and I did rather like the effect.

But how durable is the finish? How soon would it start getting a shine? What if someone were to apply a wax finish? :dk:

The salesman commented there were more models becoming available with matt finishes but he had no idea on how robust they were.

The ML in matt black looked very mean....

Leave your as it is Peter,,it is a beautiful car that you have there.

There is the business about greasy finger prints as well, you must not rub it as you say

Greasy finger prints was my first thought. The service manager also commented on how much more difficult repairs will be. Minor scratches will really show. He had no idea on how to touch up the matt finish

There was an interior decorator who always fell out of bed in moments of ecstasy - he too liked a mat finish, apparently ...............

Turbopetes comment is interesting,, mat paint is quite weak, so what is under it, it is hardly water proof either

I always think matt black looks like a blackboard, satin black is much better, I have sprayed quite a few bikes and a couple of cars in satin.....like something from Mad Max.

dont get me wrong, i like the concept, for something a little different, but you cant rub it, cant touch it with greasy fingers, cant use wax to protect it and what about if it gets accident damaged? how do you match the finish?

given the problems of cars from the mid-late 90's and early 00's i think this should be researched further before people buy them in large numbers, in my opinion

MB don't seem to be telling their dealers much about maintenance either.

It certainly looks very special, just not very practical

Had a matt finish on my 1951 Hillman Minx back in '58 - hand painted it with cellulose in the open air during early Autumn:rolleyes:

So, at last a good reason I can now doing my own spraying using aerosol form Halfords.

I can save money - no need to use a professional sprayer

Cant beat Portaflek and Portatone. Did a Capri Ghia in one of them once for a laugh as I had a mate who was a painter & decorator who had loads of the stuff (council toilet contracts).
Actually not bad as it had a dark Grey base coat.

Sadly got wrote off by an old biddy and one to many sherry's.
At least I don't think it was deliberate.
