The disc do not cause squeal, its normally incorrect pads or badly fitted pads

Sorry - i didnt explain correctly.

The squeeling has been there intermitantly for a while (not during braking) just driving along.

The squeeling has got worse and worse over the last couple of weeks,
When i press the brake peddle slightly the squeel stops as soon as i take off the brakes it begins again. - it makes no difference if im going backwards or forwards or even if the engine is running.

i have presumed that its the brakes that are my problem?

I would not change anything yet, have the old pads removed and check that the pads are not stuck in the caliper, make sure that they have some free play and not dead tight, grease them and put them back

sounds to me like they need a strip down clean fresh copper grease and a road test, should anything be worn below MB specs then yes replace it, some cars have anti squeel shims and some garages dont replace them.

They are more expensive than OE Mintex, but the clean wheels are worth it

Thanks for all your advice guys..

I will get the garage to see what is causing the squeeling before i have any replacments made.

I will of course keep you informed at to the outcome.

Thanks again.

Hello All,

Thanks for all you help and advice,

Having took the car to the garage, they instantly knew the squealing was from the pad being stuck in the caliper, - Once removed the Off-Side was worn beyond belief, the Near-Side was also worn but not as much (is that normal?).

Anyway pads replaced and a greasing later, Perfect.

Also, no new discs required.

I did observe the replacement and honestly thought "i could do that" it seamed to me that all i takes is one bolt at the back of the caliper and a screwdriver to loosen the pads - hey presto.

Am i being naive? Is there is much more to it?

Again thanks!

pad changes are easy, it always pays to clean things up a little whilst doing it though.
