Has anyone else had problems with the Comand unit on the new E Class? I bought mine in July and so far a DVD has become stuck in the player, the telephone unit has failed and had to be replaced, now the Sat Nav has failed. Quite frequently the Comand unit is also very slow to boot up or does not boot up at all. I have heard that locally there are many cars in a dealership with failed Sat Navs.

It is a real shame because the car is wonderful. It is quiet, comfortable and you can even hustle it down a B road. On a good run I'm getting up to 43mpg (it's a 320 CDI) and about 37 overall with a lot of town work. Does anyone know if there is a fix coming out for the Comand unit because it is letting down a great car?

Command

I have Command on my E Class which I took delivery of three weeks ago and although I have not had any rpoblems to date with Sat Nav I can not get TMC to work.
I get a no reception message.
Spoke to dealer who has referred it to Mercedes but that was about 10 days ago and heard nothing.
Has anyone got TMC working and if so how?

Comand

Thanks for the info guys. Just to let you know they are replacing the entire unit which they keep informing me will cost about £3000! I think they are trying to make me feel guilty for wanting a working motor car.

With regard to TMC - I was told it only works in Germany at present as there are no transmitters here yet. I fell for that one too.

Command

I have tried using TMC with Classic FM (lovely music) and I still get "no reception" notice.
I have emailed website suggested and will let you know outcome.
Its a shame there appear to be so many problems as the car is superb and the Command system excellent if all the problems can be resolved.

I spoke to MB Customer Services this week on the subject of TMC (Traffic Message Channel) on the COMAND Sat/Nav.

Mercedes do not have a UK partner to provide the service. The bizarre thing is that they use the Navigation software from Tele Atlas (www.navshop.com).

Tele Atlas have just released a new CD for my COMAND system (W209 CLK) that according to their product literature 'http://www.navshop.com/directsales/catalog/pub/english/720-TP-DX-UKIRE-2004-2005.pdf' supports TMC in the UK.

Tele Atlas are using the UK service provider ITIS 'www.itisholdings-info.co.uk', this as previously mentioned broadcasts TMC data on Classic FM, but it's a silent service. The TMC forum website at 'www.tmcforum.com' gives a superb overview of TMC and how it works.

So hopefully if I splash out £155 on the new Navigation CD, I'll get TMC and a map with the M6 Toll on.

I'll keep you all posted. If anyone has already done this then please let me know! :?:

hey guys there is an update cd just released so dealers can do the software release but it seems to be slow coming out as everyone wants one i think its classed as a special workshop tool so it wont be for general release another thing that has cropped up especially in the northwest that if your on any network other than orange there are reception/call problems see you network provider and another thing if you using 6310i nokia with software 5.5 onwards (use keys *#0000#)then you will have to wait for a later version phone control unit which is out soon or see network provider(nokia are a bit slow releasing info to manufac,so car makers are always behind!!)this hopefully has been sorted out by phone comps, & car manufac, developing the UHI (universal handy interface)on the latest models but time will tell.hope this helps y'all oh and tmc doesnt work because it uses gsm signals and the phone companies say that UK is to small a country to cover so wont commit (prob down to cost)
