Hi everyone

I have just bought a new E220 CDi and I have to park it on a busy road. Whenever a large vehicle drives past it the alarm triggers, even if I park it 70% on the pavement the alarm still goes off every few minutes.

My neighbors are furious and I fear for the car's safety!

I have tried shutting the air vents but it made no difference.

can anyone tell me how I can reduce the sensitivity of the alarm? I am no mechanic but if it can be done without specialst tools or dismantleing too much of the car I will give it a try.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mike.

If it's new, take it back to the dealer. They will hopefully be able to tell which sensor is tripping and possibly disable it through the computer for testing.
To my knowledge, the alarm on my 211 has never gone off no matter where I park it so yours shouldn't either.

Alarm goes off for no reason

E220 CDI (2003)

Third time now..........alarm goes off for no reason in middle of the night. Car is parked in garden and not caused by theft. After going out in pajamas, messing around with the key and starting the engine, alarm eventually shuts up.

But............result is no turn indicators, no fuel gauge readout, no emergency lights, remote boot opening inoperative.

Previous time (three weeks ago), after driving for a while, stopped the car, had a cigarette and when I got back in, everything back to normal !

Will go to dealer to hook up onto MB computer........they said it might be a fuse..........hmmmmm !

Anyone else had the same trouble ?

Not the alarm battery..........

Thanks quick reply Malcolm. Tested the battery under the airbox and it is OK.

Guy at MB dealership spares dept. (good guy, gives me 20-30% off parts - we run a 2.0 190 (1984 & 365K kms. + a 2.5 1992 190 (200.000+kms) said check the fusebox(es........3 of them at least). Engine box and interior boxes OK,BUT can't get the boot open with the small metal spare key !!

May have to drill that one out if MB guys can't find a key that works. Back seatrest is fixed type.

Not working = turn indicators, emergency indicators, fuel gauge, door locks, and boot lid. They must all be on the same circuit, so we will see what the blasted MB computer diagnosis system says tomorrow.

Will keep you updated

Remote key command

Malcolm...............found it !!

Took 211 220CDI ('03) to MB dealer this a.m. and after connecting the computer to it, discovered that the problem is a unit in the boot (LHS) which controls everything that is failing on the car.

MB replace it free of charge (315.- Euros locally + labour) and is part of a service re-call. The recall runs out on Dec. 30th. so got to it just in time.

Passenger seat detector is also on the blink, but I will do that one myself, since the guys at MB simply call in an upholsterer ( !!! ) pay him and add on a heap of profit for themselves. I have the explanation of how to do it, photos included, taken from the U.S. MB owners website. If needed, I can mail it to anyone who may have the same problem.

Bye for now,
Michael
