Just finished fitting new struts to my SL. Boot lid is very heavy once the first strut comes off so you need a broom ready in the boot to wedge in place. You also need quite a lot of upward pressure on the boot lid to get the ball joints to line up. I put the upper ball joints on first, got my able assistant to hold the strut on the lower joint and tapped it home with the help of a small hammer.

For the first time since I've had the car the door release now works and the boot lifts about 6 inches when pressed. Much easier to lift the boot now which SWMBO much appreciates.. £ 88 for the struts from MB stealer. Well worth doing.
