Hello Ive been reading the forum for the last few days in the back ground and you guys seem to know whats what on Mercs
The question is Im looking at a Mercedes E220 est auto 1995
Is there anything I need to be aware of ?
looking at other posts it seems I have to be careful of the back suspension making sure its not to bouncy or stiff
I need to check the transmission fluid to make sure its red not black

Anything else I need to be aware of ?
I know the 220 is not going to win many races but Id like to buy it for the reliability I only do low mileage in it say 50-60 miles a week

how does this sound he wants £2250 ono for it
It hasnt got aircon or leather but has got the usual e/w e/m e/s its also got 101000 mlies on it looking at the forum it dosent seem much what do you guys think?
one more thing he said its an elegance model but I didnt think they named them as such until the w210
any comments would be grateful
thanks Neil

p.s as a job I fit car windscreens/bodyglass and if I can help anybody just ask

Go to "User CP" in the top 3rd of the page and look somewhere in there. Forgot how I did it myself. Either that or put an email address up for a few minutes then delete.

that could be it thanks anyway
Well I rang him up to have a look at it and its turned out the altenator has just packed up (judging by symptoms ie no igntion lights and guages going the wrong way)
so hes going to get fixed first before test drive but did still have a look
The interior is spotless the sunroof tilts but dosent slide back (he said track broken or something) I think its a basic model only has front electric windows
paintwork clean and body straight a few stone chips on front panel under headlights underneath showing no rust
under the bonnet engine looks dry just usual road dirt engine and gearbox oil clean (gearbox fluid clear/red)
also back suspension moves nicely
what do you guys reakon so far and what do I need to listen/look for on test drive
thanks for replies so far
Neil

sunroof fixes can get expensive.

I'd walk away from this one and wait for one with a better spec and where all the toys work.

Andy
thanks for the advice is the sunroof the only reason to walk away ? is it the parts that are expensive as I probably could do the work myself

I wouldn't turn down a car due to a broken sunroof motor. If you don't intend using the sunroof it's fine. Sourcing a new motor can prove expensive but you could try a scrappers.

You need to resolve why the VIN check said it was an E200, yet the buyer is advertising it as an E220. It could be something as innocent as, the tailgate was once replaced and the badges were never swapped over. Or it could be as bad as a stolen car which has been given another car's identity.

Ask to see the V5, check the engine and chassis number against what's on the car, and have a look at all the other info too.
