Hello all thanks for letting me on your site.
Chance to by a 02 c270 cdi 77k full mb history 1prev owner for £4600 taxed and long mot, it is classed as a classic plus.
Besides what do I check out and is the price a good one in today's market can anyone tell me the start date of this model and face lifts
what is the difference between classic elegance avantgarde or are they just a way of getting the vain amongst us to spend more money.
Is it a better all round car than by BMW 330d that I have at present.

Welcome. The C270cdi is a brilliant car. Its very economical and powerful for a C class. It may be the most economical of the C's.

Better than a 330d. Depends on your priorities. The e46 is more driver orientated, the merc more comfort orientated. An 02 plate will not be galvanised so check it for rust. Check the ATF has been changed and all the usual electrics stuff.

Again, the 270 is a real good power plant, makes the C a good motor to drive, problems you can expect is the injectors failing, the good old air mass sensor and the CATS blocking!!!!

I can vouch for the 270 engine. Powerful, economical (got 42.8 this morning in traffic in my heavier E) and once it has a few miles on it, nice and smooth too - mine was a bit roughish when new but it isn't now.
The C is a fine motor. Pre facelift I would imagine but still a good motor. As has been said, do check out all electrics and make sure everything is as it should be. Any sign of trouble, no matter what the excuse or promise to fix (flat battery, non working window etc), walk away. They are complex cars and supposedly simple issues can get complex and expensive very quickly. FSH is critical, again walk away if it's not there.
Give it a good drive make sure it drives 100%. It should a that age and mileage so make no allowances.
Classic is the base model. ELegance adds nicer wood, colour coding, some chrome and a few extra toys. Avantgarde is a sportier suspension, bigger wheels and different trim plus the toys. Things like auto dimming mirrors, headlight washers, interior light pack etc.

The C270 CDi is lovely. Quick, economical (Av. 39mpg) and pretty well screwed together. Mine is in Elegance SE trim which provides a comfortable ride and some nice toys.
On a motorway journey it is easy to get 45mpg plus..

Oh.... and they can be tweaked easily (thanks Olly). ;-)
