What tatty bits ?

There are plenty about, look at at least 6, drive them all to get a feel what they should be like and anything that looks a bit tatty - walk away !

Even at 13 years old, if its washed and polished it should still be close to showroom condition !

tatty bits

hi,

by tatty bits i mean, drivers seat worn through on the upper support, arm rest catch broken but still works, glove box loose and some tiny pait 'bubbles' on front wing. nothing that won't fix. doesn't look 13 yrs old at all!

as i said my reservations were the 'low' spec, but then again less costs attached! also really want black, not two tone! plus on a budget!

I'd look at some more first.

The air con is a must in my view even with the top down its nice to have cool air blowing in traffic queues etc.. The aircon is also very good for a fast demist in the winter.

The drivers seat is bound to wear on the edge of the back, mine is starting to wear a bit on the back support edge but usually its because I have left things in my back pocket, but its only a very minor "scraze".

The paint bubbling is a bit of a worry no matter how small, all the ones I have seen of that age and older have been perfect. I thought the panels were galvanized at that age. If its bubbling on the edge of the arch its probably due to build up of mud/salt etc collected off the road - always worth washing the arches out thoroughly on any car.

The early R129's were two tone - its easy enough to take the lower panels off and get them sprayed up - mine was done in 2000.

Prices firm up or increase in the summer but there are plenty nice ones out there. I would resist the temptation to snap it up and look at a few others first ! (with aircon!)

Oh and where are my manners today !, Welcome to the Forum !!

he he well mine does not have AC and i am pleased that it did not have AC

in my experience AC is one of the most troublesome extras on a car as well as sapping power from the engine

yes i would love the cold breeze but to me the cost to get that is just too much hassle
