Hi All

Just thought I would introduce myself to the forum, my name is Lee.

I've recently swapped from a golf R eatate to a facelift C43 estate over the last month and was active in the vwroc forum so wanted to give this one a go.

few quick pics below, haven't taken many so far.

thanks and yes seems a nice car, have a few niggles which I've posted in another thread.

I've never had a merc before, though lots of other German cars, wife has had an A200 AMG line for a while so we both have merc now

Hi Malcolm

I've not had the car too long but my thoughts on the engine so far are as follow, I'm sure people will disagree as its subjective.

Engine is strong across the rev range but doesn't feel like a turbo car, no massive turbo surge at any point smooth across the rev range and smooth gear changes, especially in comfort mode.

It makes a nice noise and good tone, again not loud in comfort mode, in a cruise you can't hear it too much, in sport+ or with exhaust button on its a lot louder and sounds good which is a nice mix.

Overall good balance for a daily car, but not scary quick or crazy loud if you don't want it to be, great all round engine with decent power, good noise and comfort when you want it. Fuel economy isn't great as expected, maybe the B58 in the M340i is a better all round engine, sounds decent, very quick, much better mpg but the car wasn't for me, lacks the excitement in terms of looks, interior, noise etc for my taste but is a great engine.

hope that helps a little

Thanks for the review, an E43 estate was on my buy list but due to the price hike as a result of the pandemic it was shelved. As you say BMW do make a good IL6 engine my N55 with 12k miles on it is just starting to loosen up and is a joy to drive coupled to the 8 speed ZF gearbox. I’ve been looking at a 17 plate run-out model 535i touring but again silly money and it’s no match to the E class from a load lugging point of view - I guess when you’ve owned an E class estate its carrying capability spoils you I would really miss not having one it does earn its keep

Yes a good car, I also looked at e43 and e53 both have more power than the c43 but you can't feel it suspect due to the weight difference.

I ended up with the c43 as the E felt a little less dynamic and was much quieter which was great for cruising but exhaust note and excitement was also much less.

I may miss the extra boot space long term as my golf R that I just got rid of had a much larger boot than the c43.

This is probably typical of most modern engines.
Turbocharging is the standard now, but compare a modern car with a turbocharged example from say the 80's or 90's and there will be a noticeable difference in the power delivery.

I do like the C 43, and would certainly have the Coupe version.
