Hi. I have just bought a 2008 E 220 CDI which has an unusual fault (to me anyway ) starting the car from cold putting car into drive and the engine falters and stalls ..
If the car is started from cold and left running for a couple of mins put into drive no hesitation pulls away fine ..
Question what would make the engine stall drive engaged when first started hoping cleverer minds than mine might have the answer

Do you know if the transmission has been serviced; ie, filter and fluid changed?
It's possible that the torque converter may not be slipping when the fluid is cold, casing the engine to stall.
What mileage has the car done?

the car has done 160 000+ miles in very good overall condition for age . transmission oil and filter changed to try and rectify the problem. when engine run for a couple of mins. no problem with selecting D or R and car drives as it should ..
