Hi guys thankyou for the help with my tyre problem.

I need to buy a replacement key for my cls as I never recieved the original key from the trade dealer I bought the car from and he is refusing to buy me one even though he said he was going to provide it, (I should have got it in writing).

I went to Mercedes Benz colindale in London and they have given me the form to fill out for the key and say they have a set price for it. Is there any other way of getting one of these or anywhere where they will do a good price?

They all charge £195 now for the keys, no other way unless you ask the previous owner whose name will be in the log book

Doesn't sound as though you've had a very good deal with this CLS....

Trader seems dodgy, I personally wouldn't have bought the car if they couldn't supply the original key. For me that is a "Stay Clear - warning"

Anyway all the best with it.

Dealer is Hillmoren in Leicester he has an enormous selection of high end cars there. The front tyres on the car I had told him to get them changed as they looked illegal to me and he argued they were fine and in the end he said that if mercedes say to change them when he sent the car for it's service then he would get them changed, but for some reason they said they were fine. The other thing was I had told him to clear up all the dents and stone chips on the car, we went roundthe car in the show room and I picked out all of them. Then when the car came they were all done except a large crease in the bonnet which had been patched over with paint but the crease not sorted, he said he was going to send over the dent man, so I assumed he meant to my house (I'm based in London) but then on the day he asked where I was as the dent man was in the showroom. I'm sure he could tell that I'm not going to waste a day and a tank of fuel, on a side note the 500 engine has a horrific range they should have put a larger fuel tank, to get him to look at a dent which he claims I never pointed out to him.

Anyways he won't get my business again. Thing is I bought this car specifically because it had the AMG alloys there were better spec cars out there without them from Mercedes direct. The wheels are a nightmare too the car pulls to the left incredibly but I guess that this is due to them following hte camber of the road with those huge tyres, but in my Porsche I get about a 1/4 of the left pull than I do with this car (geometry has been done on a Hunter machine).

Anyways the car looks beautiful in black exterior on cream interior and sits well on the AMG wheels else I feel it doesn't look as sleek. The engine is lovely and torquey too. The interior is not a patch on my parents previous car a 1996 e280 it was one of the first new e-class's ordered new so I think they were still using decent quality leather and the steering feel was sheer luxury. Also the car creaks for some reason when going over bumps and things, it sounds like a boat creaking and is coming from the rear. Any ideas?

You can spray some PTFE into the roll bar rubber bushes, best done when jacked

Hi,

I've just joined the family myself with a CLK 320 drop top and have had 2 of the same problems myself.

Missing key - wrote to the previous owners and hoping (but not exepcting a result) so I will have to suffer the same £200 hit in the wallet - was quoted this from a main dealer (Canterbury) and Specialist Indie (Vikings).

My car pulled over to the left - seemed the car wanted to drive in the gutter rather than the road - checked the tracking and all seemed OK - was at a loss - so my mechanic friend checks it over and states "it's your tyres".

Subsequent investigation revealed that the boots she had on were budget Federals SS595 and they were pants - they were hellishly noisey and had become stepped. Swapped back to front and problem solved, although they weren't much - some cheap things made in China - Infinity INF-05's. Reviews for both are not very good

Will be getting some decent boots - some real good deals if you use an on-line service.

Might be worth swapping wheels around (check if tyres are directional) - it may sort you out.

Good luck
