New Key gears wont unlock S320

Hi All

After my recent problems my new key arrived today, I was told to put it in the ignition and wait until the little red light went out, which I duly did, turn the ignition on (without starting enging) wait for around 15 mins, and here's where I think I went wrong I thought you had to start the engine to put it in gear, I did but gears still locked but display read "Computing Data - Please Wait" which I did with engine turning over for about 25 mins, still no joy. Phoned merc guy he said I should have the ignition turned but not engine on, press brake, take out of park, put back into park then start and all should be ok.

Have I f***ed up?

sorted. Patience is a virtue!!

No abs/eps/airmatic warnings either, hopefully it was all the key.

I go a new key for my S just a few weeks ago and left it running in the drive (blocked in might add!) for a few hours while it wiped the old spare key data. No problems. but I have heard of keys being rendered useless during this process.

yeah slap it was a scary few hours. Brought her for a good run and filled her up, lovin it.
