Do you know how easy (or expensive) it is to get replacement keys? (for a 2000 C220) I have tried the webites, but can't find anything. I will ring the dealer tomorrow, but you might have some advice/thoughts.

Once MB keys are programmed they cannot be changed therefore the ones on E-bay are of no use

Copy of a previous posting. Assuming the key is the three button type, still applies.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I had the same problem as you, spare key which was not programmed to my car.

Went to my local main dealer who is usually very helpfull particularly when I am spending shedloads of money, and they immediately informed me that once a key has been programmed to a vehicle by MB, it cannot be reprogrammed. (This did not apply to the previous generation of keys, the flip type)

Having seen all the adverts for second hand keys (E Bay etc) all saying that they can, I thought I would try a different dealer. In the end I tried three, one even tried to reprogramme it but to no avail.

In the end I had to buy a new one, about £75 plus £10 for the metal key. Took three or four days to be delivered from Germany and was specific to the car. Worked immediately.

I suppose that it makes sense, if all these keys on E Bay can be programmed to any vehicle it would be a thieves paradise.

I was drawn to this thread as we have only one key with our 1995 W220 (I think thats whats its called, I can never seem to get a grip on the numbers!! its a c250 diesel) anyway, our key is a single button flip out type and I would really like to get a replacement/spare, does anyone know for sure that a secondhand one can be reprogrammed and where can you get the replacement key blade?
Steve.
