Just joined , looking for any help with my tailgate on my E350 locked shut and the key won’t open it from inside as I discovered , not sure what to do apart from smashing the lower plastic trim to try to unlock the tailgate don’t want to go to dealers as they properly charge a small fortune lol.

Hi and welcome. When you say the key won't work from I side do you mean the metal key won't work from outside?

There’s no key lock on the outside

I’m afraid I’m having a nightmare with my tailgate, made a funny noise then locked itself shut , like a terminator movie lol couldn’t open the tailgate at all tried everything , and the secret key dosnt work , and there’s no outside key barrel either on the tailgate , so looks like I might have to take off lower tailgate panel and try to open the lock somehow , any ideas anyone !

As it’s a pre facelift S212 there won’t be a lock on the outside of the boot, it’s just the release lever from the inside, might be worth getting some one from the outside to try the release too as well as you on the inside and pushing, may just be stuck with something in the latch

Can you open the boot from the switch on the drivers door.

before butchering tactics, have you access to a scanner to read the codes. I recently got an icarsoft v3 and it paid for itself with 2 jobs - assuming you are handy with car maintenance.
