FWIW - I think you'd be better of selling the 2.0 and buying a diesel - less hassle and probably no more expensive :)

Your Mercedes
BMW 525 Diesel Touring
Diesel engine in petrol car

Mercman in Southampton can probably help with the nitty-gritty here

But you have to ask whether it's worth it. For every bit you get to throw away (ECU, ignition system, etc) you get to add another one (glowplug system, dash light, etc). I think the cost of a 250 engine + all ancillaries would make locating a 190 2.5 D a better bet

If you have a donor car to salvage all the parts from it would then be ok to do that sort of job.

Some thing you will also need to change ie.
Radiator
Exhaust
Front springs
Engine mounts
Glow plug relay
Possibly fuel tank
Then get an engineers report and notify the dvla of modification
And also your insurance company.

My 190 has been converted from a 2L petrol to a 2.5 diesel(before I owned it). I assume it has the diesel gearbox but dont which diff it has? It doesnt look like there has been any major modifications anywhere so I would imagine it's quite straight forward... just dont quote me on that!
