2007 SLK 350 TIP
Hi,
I have recently retired and enjoying being able to travel around without work getting in the way. I am looking to get an R171 SLK 350 in the next week or so as an alternative drive to my more modern 2019 car. I have seen one that I will most likely to buy this week.

Can anyone please send me the datacard for the car - its VIN no is WDB1714562F176713.

Hello and welcome,

A most excellent choice

After the data card, check if the engine is in the “at risk” category for the balance shaft - Here

Check tht the Comand system (NTG2.5) has the software update 09/29 installed and see what version of the maps is installed. I bought a 2008 SLK280 last November, the update was not installed and the maps were still 2008, despite the car having been serviced by the supplying main dealer for about the first 6 years of its life! I had to pay for the software update (by comandonline) then found that the 2019 map DVD's are the last that MB will issue for this sytem - I have the DVD's (genuine MB) if you need them.

Interestingly (and unlike the NTG4 in my S204) if you attempt to install the 2019 maps and that 09/29 update has not been done, the system simply says "map update cannot be done" - whereas the NTG4 would attempt to load the new maps then stall at about 96% with no way back! (my S204 had the early NTG4 HDD with a nav partition too small for updates after 2014-15, early this year I had the HDD changed to correct this problem!).

I find my 280 engagingly quick when playtime comes, so I'd imagine a 350 will be even more fun - and it looks like yours is like mine an early facelift model so should be clear of the engine problems on early V6's. Airscarf is great, as are heated seats - and yours has the memory seats I wish mine had. You might want to look at installing a Smarttop module, which among other tricks allows you to raise the small side windows roof down to further reduce backdraft.
