Hey fellow MBO's - My name is Jai and i a new member of the club!

Heard a lot of good things about here and i'm very happy to be a part of the club.

I have a Mercedes CLK280 AMG Sport.
Year 2006
Brought it in April 2017 and so far running like a dream... until 2 weeks ago.

Started with intermittent start problems. Takes a couple of cranks to get going. Once its up and running its fine.

I took it to a Garage i saw advertised here Automerc Service Ltd (Ivan)

i have just been told they think the problem is the Engine Control Unit which they cant repair and that its a specialist part that needs to come from Germany. He quoted £2k upwards. To cap it all the bill to tell me he cant fix it is £96.00 for the diagnostics.

Obviously totally gutted so if anyone can point me in the direction of a reputable garage (Lets just say this guy isn't the friendliest and made a point of saying " you have your diagnosis, so you can crack on" - Nice)

I live in North London (Hackney N16). Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Happy Friday People!

Jai.

Hi, welcome and sorry to hear of your problems! Try taking it to Wayne Gates in Harrow. Wayne has a very good reputation on here and occasionally posts as well.
Other well respected indys are Welwyn Merx (a very loyal following and has done great work for several members) and Benzworx.

Frankly I'd be surprised if its an ECU not thats its impossible.

clk3202001,sl6002003 with everything regrettably sold ,A class 170cdi auto. NG/TF1800 ML250
crank sensor playing up.....not registering a start attempt for a while,i change these items quite often , tho not on benz cars ,maybe batt not cranking enough to read as start atempt, dont know on this car but some crank sensors dont do much after the start and engine will still run when faulty, just wont start or will be hard to start after the next shutdown .
either way i would find the price and consider it .and i would not be parting with 500,let alone 2k without a second opinion.

Take it to Wayne Gates in Harrow and get a proper diagnosis, not a chuck £2K at it and hope diagnosis which is no help at all

Welcome Jai, advice given already... even the £96 you were charged for diagnostic isn’t cheap!

Hey John. I know right! £96 and no better off for it. One to avoid and lesson learned!
