Thank you accepting me

I’ve wanted a V8 for years after bullding my own Westfield kit car when I was 21 (first job and hour in and ordered the kit).

Now have dog and family so moved on but love the 2014 - 2016 E63 AMG and finally in a position to get something like this and new cars are crazy money.

Have looked at warranties like Motoreasy which seem good but has anyone any recommendations on better or any horror stories. From reviews they seem good and fair.

And any good tips on buying and best extras, although to be honest the engine is surely all you need.

Many thanks.
Dom

Hello and welcome,

Warranty companies are in the business of making money (same as insewerance...) they don't make money by handing it out to car owners when things go awry...

Work out the premium and put that aside each month, at the end of the year etc you'll no doubt be in pocket and can treat your car to some upgrades or a detail to reward it for being good.

Get one that's well maintained - pity you're not after a saloon as one of our members has a most excellent one for sale

The Mercedes own tier 1 warranty is very good by all accounts, not as expensive as you might think so worth a call if your buying from the Mercedes approved used side of the business

From personal experience the best warranty is the actual law! This is where so many traders fall foul and feel it doesn’t exist, until someone slaps them with it. Used cars and warranty’s are not worth the hassle, best to buy wisely and maintain yourself.

Warranties are only there to get money from you, something for dealers to hide behind, cover not a lot and where you may have a genuine claim they hope that most people will get tired of the agro and walk away.

Excellent choice and happy shopping!

AMG E63 Wagon
Welcome Dom

Good choice - I bought my 2014 Wagon from GKirby back in late May who were excellent to deal with from start to finish.
Get a car you want, colour and specification. A full history with receipts is a must. My car came with a red lever arch folder with every receipt for services and parts. It all adds to that 'warm' feeling when buying a second hand car. Personally I wouldn't go near a chipped car, but each to their own.

If you haven't looked at these videos, grab a drink and enjoy:

Thank you all !

Looks to me like a great forum.

Interesting to hear comments on a warranty as thought would provide some peace of mind. Seems there’s a lot of confidence in E63 reliability which is nice to hear. Agree re full service history as can see that’s vital.

And unfortunately need the estate due to medium sized dog who likes to stretch out and snooze in the boot.

Thank you again all

I would go with Blobcats advice or others on the MB Teir 1 warranty. You're also looking at a motor that was ferociously expensive new and often can throw an equally expensive repair so set some wonga aside. I maintain my 2010 E500 myself as it is surprisingly very straightforward doing it by the MB book with the right equipment. The W213 is in the MB service plan though (far too complex for me)!!

Thank you Harry. Useful. I saw a 2013 6.2 v8 (no turbos). I guess potentially a more durable engine and bet it sounds better without the turbos in the way!

The 6.2 (M156 engine) wasn't used in the E Class after 2011 when it was replaced by the 5.5 Bi Turbo (M157 engine) in 2012. There are fans of both engines though I prefer the later one myself, having had a lot of fun with one. I now have the 4.0 M177 which I personally think is by far the best they've done.

A few heads up on the M157: The earlier ones had a few issues with timing chain tensioners and noisy timing chains. At the time, Mercedes were indulging us by fixing these free of charge, or at least at a discounted rate, but the was then and this is now. Factor in a bill of ~£1k if it rattles on cold start.
Another issue was injectors sticking and over fuelling, causing lock up. Again an easy fix if caught in time, expensive if not.

Be wary of remaps. Whist the engines take well to adjustments, a lot of tuners were just guessing at things and turning them up to the max with devastating consequences resulting in blown engines. If it has been mapped, make sure it's been done properly by a reputable company.

All in all they're a good car with an excellent engine and drive train, though not without a few niggles. It's worth buying from a genuine Mercedes dealership as mentioned above as their warranty is far better than any third party one.

you’re right, obviously, swore I saw a later 6.2 but obviously me!

good tip on noise on cold thank you, you can bet a dodgy dealer would warm it in advance. I saw cylinder head bolts were also a problem on early cars pre 2014 I believe. Question what do you mean by lockup? Literally engine seize?

wouldn’t go near a remap car, has enough power as is. Struggle to find them at a Merc dealer as too old I think for them now but thank you good tip as will have a word with mine and see if they can warranty And offer a service pack.

Maybe an estate with M273 5.5V8 is an option then MB_DOM? Good and reliable engine. Mine is non turbo but as Daveenty says they are good fun and certainly as quick as I need! Plenty of threads on this here site to read and occupy your time with and tons of friendly knowledgeable like minded owners willing to talk and give good advice
