Hi, Im new to the site, so apologise if I have put this in the wrong place.

I have a E200 L reg and the wiper motor has packed up, I also need a new centre box on the exhaust. Being a single woman, i find that if I take it to a garage they take advantage of me because I dont know all about cars.

Can anyone help me by recommending a garage that will do the work for me without ripping me off. Im in Essex.

Thanks

Missyd

Hi & Welcome,

Regarding the wiper mechanism pls have a read of this how to guide
Although yours maybe passed the lubrication phase and may have stripped teeth.

As for the exhaust if your keeping it then the Mercedes Exhausts are the best if your not bothered then any aftermarket will do although they will not last.

The wiper motor . no doubt you will be able to pick one up from a breakers yard, and being a damsel in distress.. or if u wear a slightly more revealing outfit you could be a damsel almost in this dress..the chances are you will be able to talk one of the breaker guys into fitting it for you.. as for the exhaust I would try the quick fit guys..

as both are simple jobs just ask your friends to recomend a friendly independant garage and tell them to let you know in advance how much the bits will be and that as your car is old you do not want original mercedes parts and that if its any cheaper a 2nd hand wiper motor but a new exhaust part

most places are normally willing to help as long as you make it very clear what you want and that they tell you what the costs will be before they buy the bits & a seperate cost for fitting them

Just to let you know, after looking at the How to Guide (thanks Blobcat) I have managed to get my wiper working again, just needed greasing up, goes like mad now.

Who needs a mechanic

Thanks

Well done Missyd,
That's an excellent start!
Now, are you going to tackle the exhaust too? It's not rocket science.
Good luck, and welcome to the forum.
Ron

I'll have a go at most things, but the exhaust was a little too much

Can't say I blame you. Not much room under there, and it can be fatal if you get it wrong. (I'm not joking).
A chap locally died when his vehicle slipped off the old railway sleepers he was using to prop it up while he worked underneath.
Best wishes,
Ron
