CLA 45 AMG
Hi All

I am looking at a new car and would like to gain some opinion. I have always found owners forums the best place to get honest answers.

I am not well versed in the Mercedes line up as until about a day ago I was investing most of my time looking down the BMW route.

That was until I (and the wife approved :)) saw this:

https://www.refinedautomotive.co.uk...5.1154427095.1598263869-1465618225.1558710542

Any thoughts on this car, and points to look out for on CLA45's, would you consider any major options have been missed from this car?

How does this car fit into the release cycle? i think there was a face lift around this time and i think this is post facelift but am not 100% sure.

Looking around CLA45 seem to be slim pickings for a decent spec ones with reasonable mileage.

I was considering getting a pre purchase inspection done on it which MB MK were quoting £250. would you consider this good value or recommend any other independent inspectors/garages around Milton Keynes.

Thanks in advance

Mike

The only issue I'm aware of with CLAs is scrubbing tyres on full lock.

Why do they always spell "Shooting Break" wrong..... It's not BRAKE!

It was named after a vehicle that would follow the hunt with refreshments, sandwiches, drinks and the like so as to serve the gentry when taking a "Break" from "Shooting"..... :D

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

Don't know much about that particular model, but for what it's worth I like it. Only negative is the stick on I-pad look.

You should get it!

the shooting brake was originally a type of horse-drawn vehicle. A brake was originally a heavy drag chassis with slowing capability hooked to spirited horses;

They don’t suffer from a huge amount of problems. The only check I’d advise is move the gear selector from drive to reverse and back again a few times both cold and hot. Listen and watch for delay and/or a grinding noise when going into reverse. If it makes a grinding noise, leave it. It’s not common, but Mercedes were replacing the whole gearbox for this fault. It’ll cost you if it doesn’t have a warranty. Most that were going to fail did so before 45k iirc

Hi and welcome. A lot of that equipment looks standard but I’m not sure what is options and what’s not on the CLA. However, you normally buy an AMG45 for the performance rather than the options. Personally, I would prefer LED headlights, memory seats and an upgraded sound system. I’m not sure whether Apple CarPlay is standard or can be retrofitted because not all MB systems are the same.

That is the pre-face lift - here is a photo of the facelift. The way the headlights slope by the grill is the best way to differentiate.

By the way, someone is bound to be along to say they don’t like the Artico and Dinamica seats. Artico is Mercedes' man made leather (so vinyl) but I have that combination on mine and I really like them.

Have a look at honest John, he use to be good at sussing out potential vehicle problems.
Just make sure it does NOT have Artico seat covers.

Pretty much a standard spec on that one, the 45’s are a good car though and we hear of little issues with them on here,
