S Class
I've never owned a MB never mind an S class, but I've fancied one for a while now.

But can someone explain the difference between the S320 and the S350?

I thought it was down to engine size, but apparently not...

From a frustrated VW driver:)

They are both diesels and both om642 engines , the 350 is the newer reincarnation , probably changed over about 2010 .
My E class shares the same 320 engine , and later E classes from 2010 have the 350 engine which is about 250bhp

Ah I see, that would make sense.

Hello and welcome,

A good S-Class is a most excellent choice of car.

Please note that while the S-Class can be very affordable to buy right now they have expensive appetites commensurate to their original purchase price...

Yes I have read about the "open wallet surgery" is there anything I should look for in particular before purchasing?

I think a good understanding of the abc suspension system and how to inspect it . I’m sure someone who knows will advise the procedures .
What year and budget are you aiming for ?

Actually I think ABC only on the AMGs from the 221 onward, the 500s get Airmatic.

Nah not really. Urban myth. My 20yo S class coupe has equivalent running costs to my old mk.4 Golf TDI.

Budget of £10K but could go to 12 if pushed and about the same in age really, so 2008 onwards...

Find a 221 facelift 500 for £10k to then use the extra £2k fittings LPG, best of both worlds
There is an LPG- converted S500 221 on sale for £5k on AT...

Two completely different Engines, the 320 being M112 and the 350 M262 which as far as I know had had a very expensive repair issue around the 2005 model and to be avoided. Something to do with the Balancer Shaft teeth wearing causing catastrophic engine failure.

Your thinking of the petrol engines, I believe the OP is looking at the diesels at his price point.
You are right about the engine differences with petrol but the diesel are both OM642 but the 350 has some revisions and higher outputs
