Hi all,

no I'm not selling anything nor do I have any intention of spamming anyone either ;)

Just bought another Merc (S500L) and have been tracking this site for a while so I thought I join and say Hi.

I've previously had a 99 C240 Sport, and a 00 S320, but then defected to a Subaru WRX300, before returning to the Mercedes fold last month.

The currrent car has loads of extras:
TV tuner
Linguatronic
Telephone
Ventilated seats
Rear climate control
Remote boot closing
Rear TV screen
Keyless Go
18" alloys

It's a great site this, which is down to the quality of its users and moderators. Keep up the good work !

Welcome to the forum, and that's a nice lidt of extras you have.

Re the keyless go, I hear that car parks are being watched for people that use this, you are followed very close, they have a laptop running with a scanner, it picks up your code, they drive off in your car, turn on the Sat Nav, press home, they drive to your house, you left your house keys in the car, they use your phone to ring home, all clear, they pack your car with your goods and drive away into the sunset.

I have been think of some way to defeat this by having some form of isolator.'
you cant disconnect the aux battery as you could not get back into the car.
the only other way that I can think of would be a remote controlled isolator.
Any thoughts anyone.

I can think of several ways to "isolate" the car:
1. don't leave your house keys in the car
2. don't store your home address in the Sat Nav under "home"
3. don't store your home phone number in your mobile under "home"
4. don't leave your phone in the car.

All simple "identity protection" measures that everyone should be taking already. Thieves generally only make easy profit from idiots (just touched some wood there): "well I only left my keys in the car for 30 seconds while I went to pay for my petrol" etc etc.

Do you think the key keeps "broadcasting" while it's in the car then..?

Yes the key card is very low power (1 meter range)and keeps going till the battery runs out.

It's not a card on mine, it's just key. MB stopped those in 2003 I believe.

So the person with the laptop is going to have to be VERY close to be able to scan for the transmit code then...less than a metre. I'll keep my eye out for anyone resting their laptop on my wing mirror while they try and scan for the key in my pocket as I'm driving !! ;)
