New member - thinking about a C220 Estate

Hi all, I'm Brian Glendinning, new to this group, my wife (Rose) and I run a raw dog food business (Utterly Rawsome) based in the New Forest, somehow our business survived lockdown and everything Covid could throw at us... We are currently a one-car household after my Honda Accord Tourer departed for the great car park in the sky (what a pain it is only having one vehicle!). I have always fancied a Mercedes C class, diesel for preference, and we need an estate as we have dogs (natch!) and often need to move bulky stuff from A to B. Any advice to us on things to check when looking at used models? Thanks in advance...

Depending on how much you wish to spend, a 2003-2007 S203 C270 or a 2007-2011 pre-facelift S204 C220 could fit the bill, I've owned both (S203 and current S204, both Elegance trim) and the cabin of the 204 is nicer. Mine has full leather, Comand NTG4, heated seats, electric tailgate etc, and the load cover has a built in dog guard (that we don't need!). Service history of course (I bought mine 3 1/2 years old 9 years ago, MB Used approved with 60k, £15.5k), only major potential problem I've heard of is rear subframe rust. Facelift onwards, if you go for Comand, NTG4.5 onwards is more expensive for map upgrades (by 3 figures!!).

I think Chris has covered most of it, a couple of further pointers. If you buy a pre Apr 2017 road tax is only £20 or £30, I think £150 after that date.
I am not a fan of MB sat navs, they are slow to calculate, no speed cameras, & expensive to update. I run Waze on my iPhone on Apple Play, its free apart from a small amount of data & very quick to calculate, update routes & traffic.
