Clk 280 sport w209 2005
Hi all

I've always driven the VAG range most of my 25 year driving career, just switched to a 2005 clk 280 sport. Brilliant solid car, still getting use to the very different driving style.

Few niggle bits,

1. Dreaded roof inner material gets caught as I close the roof.I see my tension straps have perished. I cannot find anybody to fix this for me. Has any member got any advice or willing to fix if they have done it before?

2. I'm not happy with the stiff power steering. I'm going to hang the fluid using Genuine merc oil, my question to members is what worked for you?

3. My roof pump oil reservoir is low, how do I top it up

Otherwise 2 weeks in and I can't stop looking at it, it's 20220316_085123.jpg just so fantastically good looking for nearly 20 years old

Welcome from a fellow CLK owner. Mine's a 220 CDI coupe. I have to say l think the power steering does tend to be a little heavier at lower speeds. Never found a problem with it though. Can't help with the other stuff, but good luck.

Welcome to you. I would suggest finding a good convertible roof specialist for the fabric repair you mention. Dependant on where you are, I have used Hoodtech in Chester for my previous Volvo C70 and they did a fine job, I've had no probs yet with the MB roof yet! In the CLK i think the oil reservoir is in the boot on either left or right side, you'll need to take off a side flap to access. It should be at minimum when the roof is 'up'. When the roof is open, the level will rise, so don't overfill. Unless there are obvious problems, most would normally leave but if it is clearly loosing oil, then time for a check. The struts and lines can leak with age but its thankfully not common.
