C207 E350d Coupe 2016
Hi All,

I have just joined the forum having been a long term follower without registering. I am currently driving a 2016 C207 E350d AMG Line Edition (pictures attached), and it is my fourth Merc having also previously owned a 2014 C207 E250 Bluetec as my first ever Merc. I truly do love this model and I have no intentions to ever sell the car on, but recently I came across the C207 E400 and was wondering if anyone had experience with how different these two cars are (considering they are both V6s) to drive on a daily basis or any other recommendations.

Look forward to hearing back!

I went from a 207 350 V6 diesel (231bhp) to a petrol GLC V6 with 367bhp. The diesel and petrol engines are very different animals and it took a while to get used to the change. If you are used to the grunt of diesel torque, a petrol engine might be a bit of a shock, not to mention the fuel consumption shock!

You really need to test drive a petrol and see how you get on. For the record, I wouldn’t go back to diesel now,

PS welcome - at last!

Cheers Srdl, you’re definitely right about the diesel torque being great. Will have to find one and go for a test drive.

Hello Grai1, welcome and the C207 is a handsome car. I'm lucky enough to own 2 MB's - one a 2010 A207 E500 (non turbo) since 2015 and a W213 E220 diesel last year. The difference between them is like 'night and day' so to speak. The 207 is an urgent maniac of a car with a silly engine, while the 213 is a huge barge, great for jobs and the dog with a very capable diesel engine and remarkable economy for such a big car. Not fast by any means, but excellent torque for a small diesel. The E400 V6 Turbo doesn't have much less HP than my 207, so I would think it is great to drive and would put a smile on anyone's face! When I bought the 213, I was selling the 207. In the end, I couldn't part with it! You could say I 'like' the diesel, but I 'love' the petrol. If you can find an E400 for sale, go and drive it, life is too short. I don't say that lightly either as last year I had a stroke (at 48 can you believe) and I am still here to tell the tale. So, a bit of what you fancy - go and test drive an E400!

Harry thank you for the detailed message and I am very sorry to hear about the stroke and hope you're recovering well!

You're definitely right about being life being short. Oddly previous to the E350d I owned a W205 C63 Saloon. Owning an AMG was always a dream, but I was hugely let down by the ride of the car (naively I thought it would still feel like a Mercedes but it just was not happy on UK roads), and both the passenger and driver front alloys cracked during the 4 month ownership of the car. I decided that was probably one expense too many and parted ways. Having experienced the power of the car, it's exactly your thoughts too that a big powerful petrol (especially these days with the huge push to electric) is something that I do miss, and so have thought having that power (or near as makes no difference) in a normal Mercedes rather than an AMG would give that daily drivability and ride comfort but when you want to experience that power it's ready to go.

Going to keep my eyes peeled for an E400 at the end of the C207 lifecycle to go on sale!

Thanks grai1 for the good wishes, recovering very well, recent discharge from the consultant too. I'm a lucky man, many more come out of these situations in a far worse position, certainly a life changer though. I do like a nice 6 or 8 Cylinder and I think MB are A1 at making good one. I've said on this very forum before that we are probably the last to own such cars. Now a 63 is something I will probably never own, they sound beautiful but I think as you did, the ride might be a bit choppy for me plus my 388hp still makes me smile! E400 is the way so go on, you know you want to! Those rarer big engined E400 cars will go one of two ways - up in value or, plummet due to no takers eventually and Boris raising the VED every year until they're simply not viable so maybe now is the time. I shall keep mine for what I hope will be many more years. Stay in with this forum too, so many new members drop away and its a friendly group of like minded and many eclectic souls with one thing in common and that's our motors!

We are in the death throes of large engined vehicles and if you want one it may be time to jump.

Don't be thinking anything but the very very best will hold onto any value.

It's amazing how many are being turned out by manufacturers worldwide as they chase the market down.
