- W123 / allegedly 1983 but I think 1981 / 2.0 petrol
Hi there. I have had lots and lots of pre-1993 Mercedes, mostly W124s. Now I have a beautiful cherry red W123, restored so well they have even found matching seat cover material and stitched in a matching driver's bolster pad.
The UK registration is mid 1983 but I gather I can't register it as historic until either Jan 24 or even April 24.
However as it has a purely numerical VIN with no alphas, I believe it must have been manufactured 1981 or earlier. This is causing me a problem because there are some material changes between mine and the 1983 - on models. Specifically I need to get at the heater blower as it makes orrid grinding noises and I want to lubricate the bearings. I have done this on the newer models with a separate bulkhead rear of the engine and in front of the footwell, but this one doesn't have that and the heater blower is somewhere forward of the dashboard. I need to get at it!
Does anyone know where I can find a workshop manual for the earlier W123? Haynes did one for 1983 and on, but it doesn't apply to my car.
