Hi and welcome to the best forum out there. Love the CLS, a great entry into the MB world. But beware, MB's are addictive :)

Hi and welcome. Testing that car with that engine and I’m pretty sure you’ll be buying it ;). Hopefully, others will be along with some more technical advice!

if you’ve got a link to an advert, post it up here so we can have a more detailed look at what you’re buying.

You will definitely buy it after the Mokka! My last car (my first Mercedes) had the same engine, albeit a slightly less powerful version. On the test drive, a quarter of a mile from the dealership, I took it up the slip road onto the M27 and floored it - from that moment on, there was never any doubt that I would buy that car.

It was also my first diesel for a while and the difference over petrol is that there is loads of low down torque so you get a surge of power without having to rag the engine using high revs. In fact, having gone back to petrol now, I still miss that low end grunt although having 367bhp on tap is a bonus!

Your target car is barely run in at 20,000 miles and only 5,000 miles a year is a bit of a concern for a diesel as they need to be used to keep the particulate filter healthy. As long as you are not going to do mainly short journeys you will be fine.

As for the car, that particular engine has been used by Mercedes for years so it is well tried and tested and, as I said, is barely run in. I can’t think of any particular problem you need to look at but others may be able to add some technical detail.

Enjoy the drive.

Welcome, struggling to pinpoint any negatives to the car apart from the obvious one of it being a diesel unless you're doing reasonable mileage?

I wouldn’t be put off the diesel as there few petrol alternatives in that model and it’s EU6 compliant my advice would be to make sure when the car does a DPF regeneration which it does every 300-400 miles that you run the car for 10 miles or so till the regen completes, tick-over increases to 800rpm and the engine note changes during the regen process so shouldn’t be an issue knowing when.

They are nice so good luck with the purchase and once a MB owner you will be smitten by the marque as we are

8000 a year will be fine, just make sure you do some 'spirited' miles preferably weekly. It's difficult to find non diesels anyway and the 350 is a peach. Nope not bonkers , imminently sensible in my opinion!

I do low miles in mine and follow the advice I mentioned above, the OM642 engine is generally a reliable lump and has had its problems as all engines do mainly oil cooler seals in the earlier engines and the odd turbo failure, it’s been in production since 2005 so has a had long development and engines post 2012 are very well sorted
