Just joined! After spending a good few weeks researching and looking at different cars, eventually found the right one. Silver SL55 AMG, turbine wheels and perfect history, cherished by previous owner, unlike some of the ones I saw! Happy for any advise/warnings.

My advise yould be follow the maintence and dont skimp. even if the costs may be eye watering, MB like genuine parts. Find yourself a reputable mercedes indy.
Happy motoring, welcome to the form and of course post some pics!

Hi Odeon, good choice of car, I've owned my SL55 for nearly 10 years, still brings a smile to my face. Glad to hear you got a good one, just post up here if you have any questions.

No particular warnings or advice, just enjoy the car.

Thanks, because of all the horror stories I’ve been holding my breath every time I drive it!

Look after it well and it shouldn’t be too bad.

I don't even own one! (keep looking at them though, and have they gone up in price in the last couple of years)
and the things I keep reading about that you want to keep an eye on, just because it's something you definitely don't want to leave at all, is water leaks into the cabin.
The main three appear to be (happy to be corrected as I don't own one):
- Drain under the scuttle panel passenger side that clogs up with 20 years of rotting leaves, and causes the scuttle drain to overflow into the heater box and passenger footwell (lot of Mercs).
- A blocked air con drain hose, which has a rubber bit on the end accessible from behind passenger wheel arch liner. If you remove the rubber bit, it generally allows the air con system condensation sump to drain better.
- Leaking lower rear window seal, resulting in leaks into the boot. A fantastic DIY repair originally written by Television is I think in the DIY/how to section.

Thankfully you can DIY all of those and they are cheap/free! Just don't ignore them.
