Hi and welcome:D

The main problem I had with my C250 was the heater control unit going down, all fixed now, he said touching wood.
Other than that everything seems to be running great:D
( Now hoping Im not tempting fate  )

Hi mate,
Welcome to the forum. You,ve not said wether its manual or auto, or how much if any service history its got.
I,ve had mine since 2002 and covered approx. 90,000miles in it. Its broken down 3 times in that time once the clutch failed one side of the friction plate fell off (1st owner riding the clutch). The other two times was the immobiliser on the alarm failing to switch off.
Since owning the car i,ve replaced:-
Pollen filter (twice),
Discs and pads front and rear,
Pads front and rear (without discs),
shock absorbers (front and rear these did,nt need replacing got cheap off e-bay),
steering drag link (complete assembly),
steering damper,
idler arm bush,
MAF sensor,
both lower wishbone assemblies (didnt need replacing trying to eliminate excessive tyre wear),
header tank level switch,
set of plug leads
fuel filter (three times),
Headlight glass,
L.E.D.s (red and green) in the rear view mirror and the drivers door(alarm)

I have my car serviced by the local independant BMW & Mercedes specialist (hes a good mate) any problem he finds i buy the bits and do it myself (saves on service costs).
If you have the alarm with the red and green L.E.D.s make sure you carry a spare set of remote batteries in the glovebox as they have a habit of failing suddenly still open the doors but won,t switch off the immobiliser.
Any problems place a post theres many, many knowledgable people on this forum.
All the best with the new car.

Hi and welcome to the group.

Had great pleasure in driving a C180 for many years, dad purchased a C180 elegance saloon auto from MB Stoke in 94 and then changed it for the estate version in 96.
Fantastic car, only problem was with the alarm but MB changed the rear view mirror and all was fine.
He currently has the New C180 Kompressor estate elegance se auto with lots of toys on its fantastic.

Hope you enjoy the group, only recently joined myself but find the threads very interesting, even if not relevant to my ML.

Thanks to everyone who has replied, obvious that a lot of help and assistance can be found from the forum and really glad I joined. It is great to have another car where people are willing to lend any advice to fellow owners.
Just as a follow up to bigasotonuk, the car is a manual with substantial history as been in the previous family from new. Don't know if there is any other manual owners which are finding the 1st to 2nd gear change a little "tricky", perhaps I just need to get used to it!!
The only points which I would need some advise from anyone willing is a slight rev fluctuation on tick over, and a metallic sound at about 2500rpm which I believe to be the heat deflector on the cat although it does sound like a "pinking" noise.

Look forward to anyone's comments on the slight niggles, otherwise I'm chuffed to bits with the car!!!

Thanks again everyone.

HI,
The noise at 2500rpm "could" be the internals of your silencer rattling around inside the silencer box, outside the exhaust will look perfect but inside it would be rotten this being caused by condensation (short journeys can cause this).
I found the 1st to 2nd gear change a bit awkward when i first got it but i seemed to get use to it. It was helped by cleaning the throttle linkage even though it seemed perfect i found controlling the revs at lower rpms was hard especially in traffic.
As far as the slight fluctuation in the revs at tic over could point to faulty MAF sensor do a search on the forum for it as there has been quite a few threads in the last few months it "could" just need cleaning and is easy to do but i,m a bit dubious about using certain cleaners on it.
But read the threads see what you think
I replaced mine for less than £100 from e-bay very recently.
Try this link to a Russian site just input your vin number and will tell you a host of information about your car it will also help you identify any spares you may need in later months.

Hope you enjoy the car as much as i have mine.

Cheers

Cheers for your advice Andy, after better investigation the throttle return spring looked like it had seen better days so I have replaced and seems a lot smoother. I am in agreement that using solvents on the maf sensor could be a recipe for disaster, but will just check it over. Your diagnosis on the exhaust also seems to ring true, what needs replacing to cure this - is it full system??

Cheers again
Simon

The 1994 C180 does not have a MAF sensor it has an air pressure sensor built into the throttle body, the MAF was not fitted to the C180-C200 until mid 1996.

Well we live and learn.
When this happened to my exhaust with the engine running got under the car (ramp) and listened to the exhaust it was quite obvious just replaced the one bit. As an after thought check the exhaust to gearbox bracket on mine this broke and caused rattle similar to what your experiencing mine was,nt a replaceable, being part of the exhaust it was welded up in the next service the mechanic said it was quite common on the C class.
Reading other threads it seems there are others who find a manual gearbox notchy i did at first but not any more probably just got you to it though i,m sure you will to.
