I've just brought my first Mercedes last weekend, a CLK230K '98.
Brilliant car apart form a couple of things not working.

First, the AC blower has stopped working. It was working fine, but then I went thru a car wash and some water leaked thru the passenger footwell and I think that has blown something in the AC blower.

I've been told its where crap builds up in the bulkhead(or something like that in the engine bay) so the water has nowhere else to go.

But since then, the AC blower has stopped working. All the electronics are working and the fuses are all fine. I'm just wondering if it will be the resistor pack that has gone and not the blower itself?

Also the driver wing mirror isn't working, it isn't the switch unit. So is the only possible alternative the mirror motor? I've got a quote for about £80 for a mirror motor, is that about right?
Also how hard are they to replace?
I can't find a haynes manual for the CLK which is ****** annoying.

The mirror. prise off plastic trim from top inside, unplug the electrics to the mirror and undo the 3 screws.

you do need a volt meter to check if 12volt is going to the ressistor pack.

Where is the resistor pack? How do I get to it?

How does the blower system work?

Regarding the mirror, Should I run a voltmeter across the connections before I get a new motor, to see if it is actually the motor has gone?

I've done quite a bit of work on Rovers and an old mini I had, but this Merc, i'm close to clueless about. So once I understand how certain bits work, i'll be able to fix them a lot easier.

Thanks

When you say the mirror isn't working, are you saying it doesn't fold or it doesn't do anything at all? If it's just the folding that doesn't work they often stick and need a little helping hand. Mine does it every now and again but if you manually fold it back (or out) it usually works fine again until the next time.

I don't have the electric folding mirrors (as far as I am aware). The mirror isn't doing anything, I have tried a new switch but that makes no difference.

It's strange about these AC blowers on Mercs,I'm haveing problems with mine,I recon if you did a count of all problem posts, the AC would account for most, which I think says a lot in MB's favour.

I just got the car serviced at the local merc garage and they found quite a few problems with the car. They are as follows:

RHF Lower Suspension Ball Joint Worn *
LHF Sill Jacking Point Missing *
Steering Damper Weak *
Gearbox Oil Cooler Pipes Corroded
Front Anti Roll Bar Bushes & Bar Worn *
Engine & Kompressor Drive Belts Worn
Front Exhaust Sections Corroded & Mounting Broken *
Rear Silencer Mounting Bracket Broken *
Rear Silencer Heatshield Above T3 Broken

The ones with * are MOT failures and yes I know that the Merc garage will be a lot more picky than a normal garage.

I brought the car of a Garage in Bradford.
The front tyres were also below the legal limit.

Because the previous owneris transferring his cherished numbeplate, I didn't see the recent MOT (Should of been around the 23rd October) and I was told that the car has been serviced twice in the past 25k but the book had not been stamped and they were going to get me the invoices for them from the garage that did the services.

The car only came with a two week Engine & Transmission warranty, I brought the car 9 Days ago. But I am getting the garage to pay for new tyres and all of the MOT failures. I am getting some quotes this week.

I'm not sure, but isn't it illegal for any garage to sell a car with illegal tyres and other MOT failures and let me drive it of the forecourt?

The heater blower motor and regulator and both dead because they ar full with water, I should be able to get the garage to pay for that aswell?

Your thoughts will be welcome, apart from the obvious dumbass comments about myself for not checking the car out fully. But I thought that buying trade (off a garage) and the fact that in came with a "12" month MOT, I didn't expect all the problems and the illegal tyres and if it does come with a 12 month MOT, the garage that did the MOT is dodgy because it would not of passed.

If they start being assholes, i'm going to threaten them with Trading Standards, WatchDog and the other people who deal with dodgy dealers.

Rant Over.

OK.
All those problems are fixed apart from two.

I have replaced the mirror motor and it still doesn't work. So it isn't the switch or the motor, could it be the connection in the door?

Also the blower motor and regulator have been replaced but bugger all(very very little) air is coming out of any of the vents (the motor is working, I can hear it), when before they did. The blower motor and regulator were flooded, but before they worked fine. Is it a blockage or something not wired up right?

I have noticed that my drivers window doesn't go up or down or smoothly as it should, it shudders part of the way. Is that because the runners in the door need cleaning, or the glass has slipped out of the holder slightly? If either one, how easy is it to remove the door card. W208 CLK '98

Thanks

Sounds like you're having a bit of a nightmare!
At least it should all be fixable.

Poor airflow should be straightforward. I bet your pollen filter is blocked or full of water. Otherwise it must be a disconnected tube.

I just fixed my electric mirror - it was the connector on the motor itself. I would start by checking for a voltage near the source, and work towards the mirror; so check the switch output before going on to the door connector, and then onto the motor itself.

You will have to remove the door card to get to the window mechanism. Once you are in there, it should be fairly simple to spot any misallignment/sticky points. Has it been removed before, and if so is it assembled correctly with all components present?

The car has just been serviced (Service B) by Merc, shouldn't the pollen filter of been changed during the service? If not, where is it and how do I get to it?

I have no idea if the door card has been removed before, i've only had the car a month.
