Hi everone,

I have just (well a week ago) swapped my Jaguar X-Type 3.0 Sport for an
E55AMG. Have to say I am very impressed not least with the power of the thing!

Loved the Jag but wanted a bigger engine

anything apart from Rust is there anything I need to look out for???

Is it a new one?
I think the rust probs were sorted circa 2004, but experts here will clarify and help, well done, and welcome.

lol no not that rich!!!

its a 98 but it has a private plate (came with the car) full Merc history and all the toys. I should have mentioned the age etc in the first place might have made it easier.

The wife used to work at autotrader. She brought home an add with photos taken at a similar location to yours. The ad stated "sale due to bereavement". I guess they were so attached to the car they drove themselves to their own funeral!

Anyway, nice motor - looks like fun.
Aside from the rust - which on a 98 you may avoid anyway, not a lot to look out for if she's been loved - as she looks to have been.

ha now thats loving a car, the guy I swapped my Jag with is a Trader in south London (a very posh area) he takes all the photos there. He said the car has had no expenses spared on looking after it... I guess if your house is worth a couple of mill then a few ££ here and there looking after the car isn't going to be missed.

Still getting used to having an auto box but getting to like it especially in traffic.

One thing I am supprised at is the Mpg, getting the same as the 3.0 Jag roughly and I have been "testing" the merc alot this week

arf arf.... :D

I am thinking of getting a warranty... www.warrantyworks.co.uk will do a 3 year Platnum one for about £1300 (£2500 per claim limit) which sounds good. Anyone had any dealing with them or can recommend another?

My advice - get it fully checked over!

Well, my picture is not a quarter as good as yours.... but I just wanted to show you that although a car can look good in a picture, it's what you don't obviously see that will cause you a major headache. Mine was a 1998 model and rust issues were major (which I think you already know about).

Apart from having Mercedes replace almost all of my panels due to rust, a couple of months ago the front suspension collapsed (the spring perches gave way due to corrosion). Although Mercedes repaired it for free on my 9 year old car - this major structural part should not have collapsed, it is a known problem, but not a recall in the UK from what I understand.

Anyway, I have sold my car and all I can say is that I am now at peace (touch wood).

Hope you can see my attachment.

Keep the rust out

Hi, the car looks fantastic, you'll enjoy that. Being used to very old cars you can keep the rust at bay with dinatrol and wax oil. For about 20.00 you can get you self a waxoil injection kit and spend an afternoon in the summer once a year waxoiling all the box sections and exposed parts, then giving the underside an underseal. Or any classic car garage will do it for you for about 120 (my pound keys just given up) and for that it will be peace of mind. See picture of my old 1966 Morris Minor, no rust anywhere on a 41 year old! not bad.

VERY much a fan - until some scrotes got into the 'secure' underground carpark where I live. The scrotes then broke into the engine compartment and stole all the electronics. On Police advise - change the car (I did - my very 1st Merc) or they will come back and steal all the NEW parts.

What a lovely world we live in
