US sites are running a poll on whether, now Chysler is to sold, the German company should be called Daimler AG or Daimler-Benz AG. Apparently Dr Zetsche has chosen Daimler AG but many hope to influence the choice. What do we prefer here in the UK?

what a question!

If you consider that Mercedes and Mercedes-Benz is a brand name as opposed to the company, that would suggest that Daimler is the better option. This also prevents the other Brands from being confused as Mercedes or Mercedes-Benz.

You see, Chrysler division of DaimlerChrysler is up sale, and it comes under DaimlerChrysler Corp and not DaimlerChryser AG. the question we need to find out is, Did Jeep get hived off from Chrysler in the same way Land Rover got split from Rover under BMW ownership? So are they keeping Jeep, the profitable bit with the big brand name?

And DaimlerChrysler as a company owns part of Airbus, so I cant see it being renamed Mercedes and the like.

Daimler-Styr-Puch never changed under the guise of DaimlerChrysler and yet its wholy owned by them, same as AMG.

As long as they get back to putting the Benz back in Mercedes I dont really mind. that way, when i next purchase one, it wont fall apart.

As I post this 136 people have read this thread so far but only 19 have voted. From this I conclude most people don't care very much what the name of the new company is. But those who do care seem to greatly favour Daimler-Benz AG rather than Daimler AG. Is that about fair?

I thought they had already decided to rename it Daimler-Benz AG? Which I think is a good name.

I think the new owners of Chrysler (a private equity group I think) have Jeep as well. I think the Germans just wanted rid of the Yanks completely as they were having a detrimental effect on the company.

Unless you have a link to more up-to-date news the last I saw was: -
http://www.just-auto.com/article.aspx?id=91303

Article summary:
Following the sale of Chrysler, DaimlerChrysler has announced that the name of DaimlerChrysler AG is to be changed to Daimler AG. A decision on this is to be taken by the shareholders at an extraordinary shareholders' meeting probably in autumn 2007.

Sending in the results of our poll and of the other forums just might influence the decision.
