Got my last ones from the local MB dealer (MB Liverpool) - £9.50 each and they offered me plate holders if I wanted them FOC (I declined as I have my own)

Something doesn't gel here, it is extremely unlikely that number plates with the wrong spacings would be sent to you unless you asked for them like that. Secondly if they did come with the wrong spacings unsolicited why would you fit them and not return them to 'Plates for Cars; ?

We are only talking about 1 millimetre out on one of the letters , but it was enough for the garage to fail the vehicle.
They got really abusive when I challenged them, I won’t say anymore regarding that but it’s the truth.
There’s plenty of other places on the web , and I can only tell people of my personal experiences with this company.

Do you still use that garage?
I've never seen any MOT tester get that picky. They will fail an illegal plate but I doubt they would notice a millimetre on an otherwise legal plate.
I'd be unhappy with the garage testing it if they failed on a millimetre on one of the letters, I suspect it had other things that made it illegal as I cant see that being the case.
Did you get a manufacturer logo on the plate, e.g Mercedes star etc.

No logo, no boarder , no stupid style lettering, just a bog standard plate.
Moved house since , so no not a place I still use.

Umm is there and issue with having a MERC badge on the left or border and slogan,I have just priced up on this basis but just seen this and wondering if those extras are an issue? everything else is bog standard and ticked UK box?

Thanks

I could be wrong but I don't think a manufactures logo is legal on a number plate :( That may well be explained on their web page somewhere

Don’t quote me on this , but I think the only road legal badges are the country flags.
You do see football teams , and other stuff like that but if plod have nothing better to do they could stop you.

To get a fully legal number plate, you need to go to a DVLA registered number plate supplier.
You will need proof of your name and address and proof you're allowed to use the plate you're getting made.

If you use an online service, they may well be made exactly as a legal plate but you take the risk of it not conforming as it is basically a fake even with your correct numbers on it.
Companies that are not registered suppliers make show plates.

If you get one made from a registered dealer, it will conform as it wont have any illegal fonts, illegal spacing, illegal backgrounds or illegal logos etc. It will also be guaranteed to be made from materials that conform to the law.
Plates for cars have an option to select the legal details but that's just the info at the bottom of the plate. You can choose illegal fonts etc. even after selecting legal details, so it's very easy to get it wrong if you are looking to buy a fake from them that looks fully legal.
I can't understand why people buy fake plates and complain they failed an MOT. Guess what, the MOT place wont accept counterfeit money either.

Well that’s me well and truly told !, I must never buy anything from the internet ever again because everything on there is clearly a fake.

Is that what I said?
You bought show plates that were supposed to be made to legal specification and it failed the MOT because they didn't meet requirements.
The vast majority of people will have no problem with them, as I said earlier I'd have been more peed off with the MOT guy if it was just a mm off on one letter.
Lots of legit stuff is sold on the internet but it's buyer beware.
In the case of the show plates you bought, it's clear they are not from a DVLA registered supplier because they would want proof you were allowed to use the plate you were getting made and to see proof of your name and address.
Go to a proper supplier and you have to jump through hoops to get a plate made.
Get a show plate and you can get anything you like with any number you like.
I'd be happy to get a plate from there and would not expect to have any issues but it's still a counterfeit plate so if it doesn't pass that's the risk you take.
As someone else said, if you're not happy with the plate don't fit it.
If you fit it, you have to accept it was your choice to buy and fit a plate from a non registered supplier.
I never said everything on the internet is fake. I just said these plates are not from a DVLA approved supplier, which they have to be if they are to be road legal.
A good fake should have no problems.

The fact that the plate failed the mot doesn’t really bother me, I totally understand your point regarding “show plates”.
The reason I would not recommend this company is the abuse I received when I dared to complain, as I’ve said in a previous post I’m not prepared to go into detail on an open forum as to what was said.

I've always said companies should be judged on how they handle things when it all goes wrong.
That's what you did and I understand you passing that on but without going into detail people will wonder where it went wrong.
No need for them to be abusive though, just to discuss if a refund or exchange would be in order.
