Hi

I just bought the above - 1997 (R) 42K miles, FSH for £14995 (Well, I think I got a bargain, anyway!)

I've only had the car since 18. June but need advice on the following faults that I've found with it:

Passenger window jumps out of runner when fully retracted on returning to closed.
Sunroof jams about 6 inches from being fully opened.
Drivers seat does not roll forward on lowering backrest and neither seat returns to previous position (lack of grease or busted?)
Rear seats do not lock back into place when they've been folded down.

The car is under a 3 month dealer (not a Merc dealer) warranty. Do I risk going back and having the repairs done by a non-Mercedes specialist or take it to a Merc service agent?

TIA

Paul :D

1) Sounds like the guiders (as i have named them) have come off the rails, fairly simple to do.

2) Is the sunroof supposed to open fully? a lot of cars ive had dont go all the way back.

3) My E220 Cabriolet seats do not roll forward, infact i havent seen any mercedes coupe where they do, only japanese cars. Sounds like you are using the back position adjuster to let people into the back, thats why it wont go back to position. I think its just a case of consulting the owners manual. Mine doesnt have a lever, when the car is switched off, the seat folds forward, no need to press button or pull levers. When moving, the seats lock in position.

Mercedes specialist would be better if no 2 & 3 turn out to be faults.
If just No 1, not v complicated, just check the trims are put back on properly afterwards.

You might find that those 3-month (AA/RAC etc) warranties don't cover everything that you think.

However, I agree with Jaymanek:

Sunroofs do usually open all the way and about 4-5 " is normally left when open to max.

Check the correct lever is being used to drop the backrest forwards.

You could ask your non-MB dealer to sort your windows, but because they are frameless careful setting-up is required. My experience of car traders has been bad both with regards to the 3-month warranties and also they were not able to fix a similar fault on a 3-series coupe, with similar type of windows. I had to eventually do it myself and found that the runners were full of broken-glass debris from some previous broken window.

Just make sure that whoever does it does it properly!
