Hi everyone.

I have just bought a 1990 SL300 & I am very pleased with it but I have 2 questions.

Can you fit a wind deflector to this vintage? There are a few going on eBay that say they will fit but I cannot see any obvious mounting points for it, so I am thinking that they were an option for newer models only.

Second question & rather more important - the bonnet does not close properly. After reading a tip here if I push the release leaver forward and exercise some gentle encouragement it appears to close but on 2 occasions now it has popped while driving:(:(:(:(

Any advice would be very welcome

thx

I has a 1995 from new an it always had to be pushed down firmly from both sides of the bonnet at the same time to ensure it was correctly locked in.

My 1991 500 SL has a wind deflector, it came with the car according to my data card.

So I expect you will be able to find one to fit your 300SL no problem :)

Groover,

1990 (R129) SL can have a wind deflector... It fits onto the rollover bar, using straps clips. Looks fine in place - the MB one is black mesh on a black metal frame. Dealers can still get them if you don't mind the (very) gold-plated price, also spotted some aftermarket ones on the web from Germany. I found mine on eBay too.

As jefft, easy to pick up on Ebay, and nice to have, they do make it virtually draft free

Seriously worth getting one, I went out yesterday, and with the wind deflector up, it was a pleasant place to be with ambient temperature of 14degC

Many thanks for the replies. I will get a wind deflector on eBay if they are not silly prices..... just got out bid for one at £132

Just for a laugh I visited the stealers today and they wanted £220 + vat..... had to stop the wife from having a humour bi-pass moment and hitting the guy!

Any thoughts on the popping bonnet problems -I shut it with a good degree of vigour but it still pops open.

this is a great forum..... very pleased I joined

cheers

With the bonnet, push the lever back towards the front of the car, that should stop it from opening.

Hi, it can only be that the release cables are still tort and releasing the catches, they can get cruded up and not return, sticking in the unlock position, go to work with some wd40. did you see my reply to your other thread?

Hi. I'm thinking of buying a 300sl 129, 91. Any tips on what to look out for what checks to be made etc? Missing service history for first 10 years. After that the owner has fsh with invoices with Merc specialist. He has spend '000s. Is it worth considering? The driver's beige seat is torn. DO you know of anyone to repair, if so cost? I am in E London.Thanks.
