Hi all!
We have just bought a 207d van with motorhome conversion. Its an '88 with a genuine 37k from new. We got it off an old couple and over the last 12 months it has only done approx 300 miles.
On Friday night it wouldnt start, just a click when we turned the key but then fired up 1st time this morning. We have been out for a run in it today and stopped at our friends house and the same thing happened again when we were leaving. By this point the engine was warm and had started 1st turn at the garage & off licence. I presume its the starter motor sticking but could it be anything more trivial such as a relay? Also, where is the sarter motor sited on these to save me searching! On my old mini a whack with a hammer shaft used to sort a sticky starter until I changed it
I have done a search on the old threads but couldnt find anything that could give me a clue!

First thing to do, assuming the battery is known to be good, is to thoroughly check the connections to the battery are clean and tight and the same with all battery to chassis and starter motor connections.

Thanks guys.
The battery is only a few months old and the connections at that end seem clean and tight. I havent checked the chassis and starter connection so will give that a try.

Hi I have had a couple of 207 and 208. On the solioid there is an earth strap a live from the battery and a small ignition live. Dirt and grime makes the ignition live poor and dirty. Take off and clean and then out back on and this will solve your problem and saves you getting a whole new starter motor. This is just a plug no nuts or bolts. This happened in my most recent Mercedes.
