I have recently just aquired my first ever Merc. A white '92 J plate 190e 1.8 petrol with 115000 miles. a full MB service history and looks pretty clean inside and out. Only one problem, is the wheel bearing (i think) which I have just posted in a another thread.
Anybody else here that owns this model type? What do you think of it?
I paid £1500 for this, does that seem like a fair price? I previosly had a Mondeo, so I have forgone luxuries like electric windows and aircon for the pleasure of being able to own a Merc. Will I regret it?!
I'm not regreting it so far, I love this car even though I have to get used to winding the windows manually!

Good choice!

If you get too annoyued with windows, you can buy bosch Kits from Euro Car Parts that convert to electric. I havent used it, but have heard they are v reliable and easy enough to install, not too expensive either....

Thanks, I may look into that.
Now, to make this the perfect car for me, Air conditioning? Too expensive or impossible to retro fit?

Calm down guys!! Costs anywhere between 500 and 1500........ I wouldnt bother if i were you, but if you want to investigate, do a search for air con on this forum, been discussed many a time.

I looked into this and have seen pictures of the work involved and its not for the faint hearted. Realistically, the dash has to come out and I dont think you'll see much change from 2 grand for a factory style job.

If you only have a small 4 cylinder engine, the aircon will sap that little bit more power and make the car even more sluggish.

I'd save your cash and perhaps upgrade to a higher spec 190 or an early C-Class when you can.

As for making car slightly more sluggish, have never ever noticed this, but maybe older aircon systems are no as efficient as recent years.
