Hello all!

Recently I sold my Lexus LS400, and bought a Volvo XC70.

I don't like it. I like older cars. I like super simplicity!

I'm currently on the look out for a nice example of the W124 300TD estate, with factory air conditioning.

If anyone has one for sale, I'd like to hear from you!

Thanks all,

Charles.

Hi and welcome.
I too like the older cars but even they can be complex!

Nothing even close to modern stuff!

I'm an engineer by trade - a mechanical fuel injected engine is the dream!

I am not sure that I have...

Is there a list of 'usual suspects' I should check first?

I have been looking online for a while, but it's highly likely I've missed a few since I don't know the places to find such cars - I am under no illusion they are a bit of a niche market now.

My 1993 SL has EFi, electronic ignition, memory electric seats, hydraulic roof and vacuum operated locking.... Not exactly simple and it's the same vintage (and based on) as the w124!

I know there's cars which do have all of that stuff...

I just love the idea of finding one without most of it. I like old cars and bikes, but sadly, for daily use, must aren't really a practical option.

For me, I can see a diesel W124 estate being a great compromise.

Plus, if I don't pay over the odds, and I keep it nice, depreciation won't be too much either.

I just looked at the dealer there... Definitely don't have £20k to spend! I think they might be a bit too nice for my budget!

Not sure it was on here or ont 'tother side... but I replied to your post about getting a 124 diesel estate and current prices.

Then I recalled that a mate was talking of selling his late, 1995 multi-valve 606 estate last year, so I have emailed him to ask if he did so.
Would possibly be an ideal car for you. Not a shed nor a mint example, but low mileage iirc (130K-ish?) and he's done lots of work on improving it. He would be very realistic, price-wise.
Unlike this one...:)

When he replies, I'll update this thread.

Ha! I posted about that actual car here and on the PH Bargista thread.

It annoyed me that none of the faults were identified in the advert (and there were many) and wasted my time.

If your friend is serious, I've got cash waiting.

And, he can rest easy selling to another enthusiast owner with a penchant for spending way too much on "preventative maintenance" - I can guarantee I won't be slapping it into a banger race!
